- Dr Radhika SIndia297 contributionsGood Experience of visiting the place. Infact only nice ace jn JaipurAmer fort is 15 kms from the Jaipur city. We travelled there by a ola cab. Hired a jeep to reach the entrance for Rs 550 per jeep ride for up and down with 2 hrs waiting. The entrance fee is reduced to almost less than half for students with valid Id proof. We hired a guide at the jeep stand also for Rs 400. The place is a worth visit if you are in Jaipur. There are some and old and new constructions in the place. Guide was of great help as explained the historical importance of the place. It's beautiful with carvings, paintings of vegetable colour, rooms of queens and kings, sheesh Mahal. A beautiful monument with exceptional history. Just loved the whole experience!! The only annoying thing is that the drivers of cabs, rickshaw etc all cheat a lot. The tourists have to be really careful.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 19 September 2023
- Xavier teoSingapore, Singapore10 contributionsMiddle of HillsThere is a restaurant inside, and if you want to eat in it, you don’t need to buy tickets. So you literally pay nothing for tickets here if you planning on eating too. Big water tanks, towers, a big canon which was only ever tested only once and it made so much sound that the people who fired it became deaf even though jumped in water… and the provision made to jump in water is interesting to watch.Visited August 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 22 September 2023
- AndythebaggieBirmingham, United Kingdom3,224 contributionsAmazing Fort & there’s Elephants! This Rajput era Fort was one of the top two highlights of my Indian tour. You can travel up to the fort by jeep type vehicles or the old fashioned way by Elephant which certainly looks more sedate. Apparently the elephants do not work during the middle of the day to avoid the midday sun. The trip up by jeep is fun and it’s a fair and steep climb. There’s plenty of pinkish sandstone as well as marble in the buildings. After the main gate and courtyard there are some imposing and steep steps to get up to the next courtyard. The views are spectacular, down to the crocodile infested lake (well that’s what the signs say!) with the elephants winding their way up, to the kilometres of wall on the neighbouring hills (reminiscent of the great wall of China) and the higher fort on the next hill as well as the town below. There’s plenty of marble and intricate screens and decor to see especially in the maharaja and his wives quarters. A spectacular must visit site!Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 October 2023
- Patricia_MGN357 contributionsIncredible! This place is amazing. I definitely recommend visiting with a guide so you can get a deep explanation on the history of this incredible place. So many details to see, great views of the city and not crowded at all (maybe we were lucky).Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 October 2023
- AbigailMiami, Florida10 contributionsHeritageThe monument itself is a sight to behold. It's a destination worth visiting at least once. I recommend purchasing tickets online in advance to skip the queues. Weekends tend to be quite crowded, so it's best to plan your visit on a weekdayVisited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 23 October 2023
- Andrea438Milan, Italy530 contributionsIt is a visit not to be missedIt is a visit not to be missed and to get into the spirit of the place, I recommend getting there by climbing the steep paved path on elephant back. Inside you will find a series of very beautiful buildings decorated by the skilled hand of local artisans. There is also a temple dedicated to Shiva, small but richly decorated starting from the silver-covered door.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 November 2023
- Yuvraj KakadeTalegaon, India80 contributionsTruly historical place in Jaipur. It's a historical monument of Jaipur, Rajasthan, well maintained and kept clean. I absolutely loved this place, definitely recommend visiting once. The architecture of this fort from inside out is just awesome. The deewan-e-aam, Sheesh mahal, Holi chowk, bardari, queens rooms, food making pots all were great to watch. It almost take you to the old era. You have to take a government approved guide, it's make things easy to you. He also shows you the fort in proper way and sequence. The only problem here is parking your vehicle.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 25 November 2023
- Joss L26 contributionsGo and enjoyGreat fort with a lot of history, very crowded but definitely worth the hype. A lot of people asked for photos with us, which was a little annoying after a certain amount of time. Make sure to walk up there or take a guide over an agency as there are almost no signs. Maybe opt for the audio guide if you'd like. Please don't ride an elephant up there.Visited December 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 19 December 2023

Very nice and beautiful! I liked that it was so big so even though there were many visitors it never got too crowded. The small tempel inside was very nice as well and there are many different affordable striking souvenirs. The color is beautiful and pictures are nice. End of February was a really good time to visit since the weather was really nice, not too hot.

We went on a private tour with a local tour guide. He received confirmed Itinerary to Amber/Jaipur Day Tour and we almost got cheated as he asked for Elephant Ride payment INR1,100/pax to ride up to Amber Fort and we remembered it was included in our Tour fees. Do read what you paid and what's Not Included in your Tour Fees. I am not against local Indians but you have to Always Agree on the Tour Itinerary, Fees Included and Always Bargain to Agree on the Price before taking any local transport.
January is the BEST season to visit India as the temperature is pleasant and its towards Spring time when you can see flowers bloom.

We visited Agra,Jaipur,Udaipur,Delhi with my family (wife and 2 kids) in Christmas 2019 holidays and so visited this attraction during our stay in Jaipur.
We hired an taxi from railway station to Amer fort and he charged 1000rs to and fro with waiting time of 1hr.
Amer fort Rajputs surely took inspiration from Mughal architecture and we can see that by ourselves.
BTW,Jaipur as such is not a neat town with heavy traffic and hardly people putting helmets while driving. Atleast this is my observation.

The place is really worth visiting, it’s on a small hill though not at very high altitude you have to climb few feet’s and you do get number of options for climbing 1. Elephant ride which will be a good option costs ₹1100 and 2 persons can go at a time, 2. you can take Jeep as well if you are more people along and if you enjoy to walk you can climb yourself. Take guide at the ticket counter, the moment you reach Amer fort many people will come and force you to get guide be selective in that and do ask for their govt ID So that you will get a good guide, it will take 2-3 hours to cover the fort completely, you will get water in many places inside the fort itself so be very selective in what you carry with you as you have to walk a lot. The fort is really beautiful and amazing, a must visit place in Jaipur.

a royal place to visit. visit starts with elephant ride - 1100 rs for 2 people on 1 elephant. you could also tip the Mahouth if you like. 100 rs per head is the entry to the fort palace. guide charges is 500 and you can give more depending on how your guide explains, our guide did a great job and we paid him 600. do not shop in any place the guide say, they work on commission basis.

Beautiful palace with awesome city views and palace is simply breathtaking. It's an old palace and not very well maintained but still has capability to take your breath away.Sheesh mehal is good but not that great, you would have tons of places for photoshoots in different part of fort if you are insta freak or if you are like me, you can simply enjoy great city/mountain views for sometime to brush off the city fatigue
Don't take guides, as most are not good and they will take you to a shop quoting it as local handicrafts don't get fooled it's a scam. I read it in other reviews and still couldn't figure it out.
Pro Tip: If you were told about a free jeep trip to local handicraft, just run away from it.
Myth buster: You can travel with your own vehicle till top gate of fort with just an additional fee of Rs.50, many people will tell you to take Jeep or elephant rides because roads are bad and blah blah blah... don't believe, it's little bad but if you aren't driving a maruti 800 or similar, it will go through without any trouble.
Hidden Gem: Vintage cars are available from Hathi Point till main fort entry with charges of Rs. 80/person, great option if you like to experience something new (I got to know after reaching there so couldn't do it)
Highly recommended.

The Amber Fort is a must-see in Jaipur. Little bit out of Jaipur city and a small climb (steps) up to the main gate but once you get inside and see the Sheesh Mahal (palace of mirrors) it will all be worth it. Unfortunately guy at ticket window didnt know what SAARC rates are (South Asia SAARC country rates are supposed to be same rates as Indian rates) so we ended up having to pay Foreign ticket prices which was unfair as we have been able to get SAARC rates at every other Indian site, including Taj Mahal, Nahagarh Fort, etc. The ticket staff should be educated about these rates to avoid bad publicity. Other than that, great place to visit and you can spend 2-4 hours here depending on how much you want to cover and in what depth. Audio guides are available inside.

I love history and take a bit of extra time to appreciate the architecture and design. There is much more to this fort than expected. It’s also like a palace, and a maze. Wish I would spend more time here. Took me (unfit person) 20 minutes to walk from Amer Palace, and $250 rupees (I’m white and they take advantage) by tuk tuk back down the back road (accessible by road). Between the Palace and the Fort, I spent a whole day between the two. There were men there dressed like security who kind of followed people to show them more things and asked for tips “it’s ok I work here”.... didn’t feel very safe as a solo white female towards sunset time with less people around and guards pestering. Excellent views!

This was my second visit to Amer fort. As always this did not disappoint. The magnanimous structure in the wintery morning is breathtaking and surreal.
Be sure to take a guide, they will cost anything from 150-300 rupees depending on how you bargain and the number of tourist. You could also opt for the audio guide which is also a great option as it's available in multiple Indian and international languages - English, French, Japanese, Chinese, Russian for starters. The place is huge and you Ned to give half a day to soak in all the sights and history. There is Cafe inside the structure which gives you a well needed break soaking in the warm sun. If you are early you could take an elephant ride up to the fort area which makes the experience even grander.
Be sure to carry some sun balm and lots of water as it's a long walk in the sun.

Add this to your list, it’s excellent.
The fort is the jewel in the crown of Jaipur (capital of Rajasthan) - the ‘Pink City’. (It’s known as the Pink City since it was painted pink to welcome the Prince of Wales - who was later to become King Edward VII - and even part of the palace was altered to accommodate the Prince’s love of billiards.... I’ll leave it to your guide to tell you the story.)
Situated at the top of a large hill you have a choice of 3 ways to access the fort; 1. On foot, 2. By elephant & 3. By Jeep. We chose the Jeep option. The roads are chaotic and therefore whilst you can walk it won’t be pleasant and you may find yourself a little overheated by the time you get there (and there are 4 levels to negotiate once you arrive at the fort). As for the elephant option I wouldn’t take that option and wonder how long it will be before this practice is stopped...but it’s your choice.
(As I said above the roads are chaotic and you’ll find lots of Jeeps parked very close to each other, other vehicles and motorbikes competing with pedestrians and general mayhem.)
The buildings and courtyards are really impressive and they are populated with all sorts of people in traditional costume (looking for money in return for having their photo taken), entertainers and hawkers. This heady mixture of locals and visitors (not to mention the elephants) really adds a vibrancy to these impressive buildings.
As always it’s best to have a guide and to listen to the story of the fort, the Maharajas, their households and the history of India. It’s fascinating.
Enjoy.

What is the best way to travel from one to another?

How much walking would be required to cover at least major spots in the fort?
I am currently in Jaipur & have elderly parents with me, so wanted to check if any of the three forts(Amer, Nahargarh or Jaigarh) can be visited with parents or shouldn't trouble them with this?

Please dont ride elephants, it is horrible abuse of majestic creatures. If you ever saw how they “tame” elephants in order to ride them it would make your stomach turn. If you want to experience an elephant up close visit a sanctuary, but riding them is keeping a disgusting business alive and well while torturing sentient creatures who as the old saying goes, “never forget.”
