This is one breathtaking mountain ridge hike. We took the cable car to fronalpstock then walked to klingenstock and down. The guide says it takes around 5 hours to do the hike up to fronalpstock, along the ridge and then back down from klingenstock. But it took us around five hours just to do the ridge walk and then walk back down 🤣

First funicular to Stoos then ski lift to Klingenstock just to get to the trailhead! The Ridge Hike connects Klingenstock and Fronalpstock over the most picturesque terrain imaginable; words nor pictures can do it justice.
Though beautiful, this is NOT a easy hike. The 4-1/2 mile path is constantly gaining and then losing elevation, in many places quite drastic. It took us a little over 3-hrs to complete. We stopped and ate lunch on the trail and one of several view points that hat picnic tables and probably took 50 photos, not to mention the times we stopped after a big climb to catch our breath. We are in our 60’s but avid hikers and this one was tough.

We actually did this ridge line hike twice on our last trip. Loved it so much the first time we returned couple days later to do it again. Not for those with fear of heights. It is truly an amazing view and a moderately difficult hike.

The hike from Klingenstock to Fronalpstock starts off easy, but that last 0.5km is very difficult. Good shoes/boot recommended. However, the trail is well maintained and as long as you are sure footed you will be fine

We’ve hiked all over Switzerland and this is probably one of (if not “the”) favorite hike.

This place was on my list since 2 years now and I finally made it. I took the steeped funicular and 2 chairlifts from Morschach up to Stoos. The views are spectacular and on good weather you can see the Grosser Mythen peak.
There is also a restaurant with terrace.
The kids (and not only) can also pet the goats.

This was the best day of our trip. We took the train from Lucerne to Schwyz, bus to Stoos and then caught the sky cable car to the top of Fronalpstock for the most beautiful view. We caught lunch at the restaurant there (not spectacular, but filling) and hiked for about three hours before catching the funicular back down. The views are spectacular and it is well worth the money. Great, but athletic, hike up and down the alps!

If you are lucky and the air is crystal clear, you can see 9 different lakes from the Fronalpstock, plus a few arms of the contorted Vierwaldstättersee (Lake Lucerne).
You reach this mountaintop via the small village of Stoos, which itself can be reached by a steep funicular train from the Muotathal, or by a chair lift from Morschach. Once you reach Stoos, you can actually access 2 mountain tops: the Klingenstock and the Fronalpstock (covered by the same original train ticket).
For the Klingenstock, there is a 6-person chairlift starting about 30 minutes walking from the center of Stoos. There are no amenities on top of the Klingenstock, other than a toilet, but you do get a nice view. You can either take the chairlift back down to Stoos or you can take the 2-hour walk from the Klingenstock to the Fronalpstock. This is only recommended if you have good walking/hiking shoes and are not afraid of heights as there are quite narrow sections with steep drops on both sides. The 4-person set of 2 chairlifts to the Fronalpstock is about 5-10 minutes from the center of Stoos.
The combination of the two peaks with either the mountain-top hike or up and down via the chairlifts is very much recommended - the view is spectacular, and at the Fronalpstock there is a quite pleasant and quite large restaurant serving typical Swiss food from the region (see separate posting). As another poster already mentioned, the fare is quite reasonable compared to many of the other conveyances to mountaintops in the area. With the one fare, you can access both the funicular to the village of Stoos as well as the chairlifts to the 2 mountain peaks.

First and foremost are the views. Viewing platform is good. The lakes look wonderful as do the mountains in the background. I got there by using the Stoosbahn to the town Stoos. The town is small and beautiful. The trip from Stoosbahn station to Fronalpstock is pretty expensive though. CHF37 for me on a SBB halbtax. So the average tourist will pay even more.
First part to Stoos is quite a rickety old system, but gets the job done. The last part to the top is a ski-lift type system in 2 legs. 5-10 minutes to get to the top where there is also a hotel and restaurant. The sound of cow-bells permeates the air.
There is a children's playground at the top too.
So for the views, I'd certainly recommend this. BUT, there are few bad points, apart from the price.
It just seems unfinished. No real info available about the place, any history, the meaning of the crosses at the top. A telescope would be nice like they have in so many other places. I bought some snacks at the restaurant. About a third more expensive than the usual shops, which are already expensive in Switzerland. CHF 5 for a coke. So bring your own supplies!
And the biggest gripe. On a beautiful June day, the cable lift stops at 17h30! Seriously. Wanted to enjoy a sunset? Forget it! The times of the Stoosbahn are longer. But the cable lift to the top stopped at 17h30. Was a long hike back down.
(Summer times may be longer, but mid June should be well in Summertime mode).
In short, superb views, but everything else needs a tweek, drop in price, finishing touches added and extend the times

We took the cable car up from Morschach to Stoos and then the chairlifts up to Fronalpstock. Compared to other lifts in the area it is considerably cheaper yet no less spectacular. The view from the top is breathtaking and home to a great little play area with zip line and a great restaurant with tasty Kuchen. There are easy walks at the summit and down the mountain with a more challenging option for more experienced hikers. It is a trip to be recommended and one of the highlights of the holiday.

Walking along the ridge line from Klingenstock to Fronalpstock is one of the most beautiful and awe-inspiring walks I have completed; the scenery here dwarfs that of the Lake District, and most places you're able to walk in the UK.

Riding the fernicular at 110% is also an incredible experience - what a superb feat of engineering. From there, we took the chairlift to Klingenstock and then began our walk along the ridge line. You can walk the other way but this way is arguably the more challenging and more rewarding - the view before us was much better than that behind us.

It's a truly breathtaking and wonderful view but it does come with a hefty price tag - the fernicular and access to the chair lifts aren't cheap. Take your own lunch to save some pennies!

Fronalpstock is one of the two main peaks accessible at Stoos. You can hike up or take the chairlift (25 CHF return ticket + 5 CHF deposit, return the card to get back the deposit). It is relatively uncrowded as compared to other popular attractions near Lucerne. We got to see an unobstructed awesome view of Lucerne Lake, the moon above the mountains at one side and the sun at the other side. This is a hidden gem.
