highly rated but not worth it, visit only if you have nothing to do, located in a crowded area and very crowded and misses the peace associated with monestaries

I had visited during morning time. The area of the temple is huge. Namgyal Monastery also called Dalailama Temple. There are Institute, admistration office and residence of Dalai lama, library adjacent of temple. This place is very calm. There is no entry fees. This temple is just one minute walking distance from Dharamsala skyway/ropeway.

Dubbed the kora walk, this is one of the most peaceful experiences during my time in Mcleodganj. While the path is hilly in parts, it can be easily attempted even by beginners with minimum physical fitness. It traverses through beautiful Tibetan flags, Buddhist stupa, towering trees and local lives. Absolutely gorgeous!

The Dalai Lama Temple is a Buddhist temple and monastery located in Mcleodganj, about 2 km from the main square. It's a serene and spiritual destination that offers a beautiful temple surrounded by natural views in the lap of nature.

The temple is well-maintained and managed, and although it can be crowded with tourists most of the time, it remains a peaceful and calm place. Visitors can spend a full day at the temple, taking in the atmosphere and enjoying the beauty of the temple and natural surroundings.

For those seeking a spiritual or meditative experience, or an opportunity to learn more about the cultural and religious significance of the temple, it seems like a great place to visit. Overall, the Dalai Lama Temple offers a unique and unforgettable experience that is sure to be a highlight of any trip to Mcleodganj.

Take a walk of almost 45 minutes from HH Dalai lama residence/temple with a steep incline at the end of trek. You get to see awesome scenic views of the valley and stupa surrounded by pine trees. Not very popular among tourists and not much crowded.

My 10 year old son and I began the Kora walk at 7:30am from our hotel the Chonor House and at the residence of HH Dalai Lama. The trail is beginner with steep incline toward the end. It is paved and winds around with lush forest views on one side and temple and his holiness view on the other. Begin your journey at the home of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, in McLeod Ganj, Dharamshala. The Kora walk is an easy trail that takes you through forested areas and past temples, giving you beautiful views all around. With a moderate incline near the end, this is a perfect hike for beginners and experienced hikers alike.

Since the Dalai Lama Complex was closed due to covid, we did the temple loop hike till Illiterati cafe. The route is very scenic with views of the valley, stupa and pine trees throughout. Not many travellers take this hike, hence the way is quite peaceful and clean.
Overall review - Highly recommend

We stayed at Norbu House Hotel which had an alternate exit that involved a 300 mts walk straight to the Tibetan market where the Dalai Lama Temple is located. An event had just concluded when we entered and all devotees were distributed snacks. The hall of the temple was comparatively much smaller than Gyotu Monastery.

The place where the Dalai Lama resides is at a higher level and tourists are not allowed to visit him. We were told that when he wants to address the gathering, he would come down to the temple. We did not get a chance to see him unfortunately.
