Barot valley on the banks of Uhl river in Himachal Pradesh has stunning natural beauty. It's mini Switzerland. No crass commercialisation like the hill stations of Shimla, Darjeeling, Nainital etc. Himachali people are simple, kind hearted, helpful. There are many hamlets around with small terrace farms growing vegetables, wheat, garlic, potatoes etc. This is a place where you can just relax and watch natural beauty which changes its colours in early morning to evening and night. There are a few sight seeing places and quaint villages within 10 kms. But it's best to walk around the place about 2 kms in any direction. Solo travellers including women are completely safe. Shops selling essentials and even icecreams are around the corner. Let's encourage eco tourism in India and local homestays instead of blindly running after exotic locales abroad. The Uhl river is flowing just 30 feet away. I stayed for 5 days in second fortnight of March 2023 at Malhotra homestay at Munthal village which was clean and neat and the family is helpful for all basic needs.

Barot Valley is serene, tranquil and extremely scenic. Good place to relax and unwind. We stayed at Sahin Home Stay in Multan, adjoining the Uhl river. Rooms were spacious, clean and well maintained, as was the bathroom. We had a balcony big enough for a sit out and we enjoyed our early morning tea and evening drinks Adjoining the rooms is a large verandah where were neat and right throughout we could hear the with a Scenic & Serene place.

Barot valley is very beautiful n peaceful place. If you are looking for crowd then you may avoid this place. Because it is full of nature beauty. Who love nature, love this place. We planned to visit this place for 2 days but after seeing it's beauty n peace. We extended our days. We booked our rooms in Hotel Raj Kamal after reading reviews on google. N we find the hotel rooms n service same as other guest mentioned. It is on the bank of uhl river. They hve river facing rooms with the perfect view of dam n mountains. Hotel owners are very cooperative n supportive. Much recommended this hotel. Very clean n hygiene.

Beauty - This place is super scenic and quite well maintained. From some reason this is one of those place, which is not yet overcrowded with tourists and it still maintains its pristine.

Stay & Melas - There are no big hotels and you will find small hotels and home-stays, which are neat and fairly priced, you could get meals there as well. There are 1 or 2 restaurants/cafes to eat out

Places to see - Barot itself is quite beautiful and you can just stay there and enjoy, for more you can explore the valley towards Rajgundha (which is incredibly beautiful), it will be couple of hrs drive.
Or you can take a short drive towards Lohardi village..

Best is, ask locals, roam around and explore by yourself..

From a solo traveller: Barot is a true gem, hence, hidden for many even today. Peaceful, absolutely clean, raw nature, dream-like landscape with Uhl river flowing all along - somewhere wide, somewhere narrow. September onward the water is less, river bed can be seen and you can soak yourself in shallow waters almost anywhere you stop by riverside. Well-connected by buses (HRTC and private) from Bir, Joginder Nagar, Baijnath and Mandi. Worth staying for at least 5 nights.

Enjoy watching farming - cabbage, corn, cauliflower and more. Superb local buses - clean, no honking, timed and full of friendly and helpful people. Lohardi, Bada Gram, Zero Point waterfall and Lapas waterfalls are a must do. Zero Point is walkable from Multhan homestay. Lapas will take up to two hours of walk and steps up and then walking through fields and villages. FUN!!

Malhotra Homestay was my fav. during this trip. All buses stop right in front of it. Cleanliness, views hospitality and Food are JUST AMAZING. Unfortunately, the upcoming camps, city people driving with their cars will hurt this place in coming years and the beauty will be commercialized...hope not!! Hope Bharatiya can behave responsibly towards nature and the healing, the peace n the beauty it offers.
