This was an amazing site. We knew nothing about this bronze age settlement before visiting sardinia but it was well worth the visit. You have to go with a guide, so occasionally you need to wait for a bit at the ticket office until the next tour in English. We went late afternoon and waited 10 minutes for an English speaking guide to come free and there ended up only being four in our group. There's no shade so hats recommended and certainly good shoes. The climb up and into the main towers is by a steep rock and stone staircase and you have to duck to avoid the low ceilings so care needed. However it is worth it to be able to see and experience these ancient structures.

Public transport is barely operational (1 train a day at 14.05 from Cagliari and one has to spend the night) so a car is necessary. I don't drive so booked a tour through my hotel with "Sardinia Dream Tours". Francesca was punctual and the morning was great. She had copious amounts of information, not only regarding the Nuraghe but also about Sardegna's existence and even its foods. The Nuraghe is fascinating and a must is the Zapata museum with a swing past the Domus de Janas on the return. Well worth it. Grazie mille.

Sardinia has these ancient ruins located throughout the island but this location has one of the larger ones and it’s being excavated. It’s impressive to climb the stairs and walk both in and around the extensive site. A few pieces of advice, this tour is for people with good mobility— the stones can be slippery, the low passages require you to be able to bend down and there is a bit of walking. We took a private guide and that proved to be a bit complicated as we had to wait for the site guides to bring us into the ruins themselves. It made for a crowded experience.
