Great Facility for Crémant

Veuve Ambal is a very modern production facility for Crémant, the French sparkling wine made outside of Champagne. On the outskirts of Beaune, this is a wonderful and informative tour, with a self-guided tour of the factory and a nice audio to explain the history of the family and what you’re seeing. And after the tour you get to sample the Crémant which is half the fun.

Book your tickets at the Information Office in downtown Beaune and get a free bottle to take home! The tour is all done at your own pace with an earpiece and nice videos. The staff is only with you in the tasting room. I learned a lot about how and when you can store an open bottle of sparkling wine.

Very much enjoyed the tour of this modern facility. The audio guides allow you to set your own pace, and the units function well and are easy to operate. The modern commercial operation is in contrast to the more traditional wineries in the Burgundy region. However, this contrasting perspective is exactly what makes this tour interesting and unique. We were a little disappointed that more of the automated robotic equipment was not actually in operation when we visited, but that was compensated by the attentive and generous tasting that followed the tour. We wished we could have brought more bottles back to Canada with us.

Have visited quite a few wine and champagne chateaux over the years. Most consist of a vineyard tour, a proud display of the ripening stuff in barrels and bottles and a sample and buy ending. Not Veuve Ambal. This tour gives a very detailed insight in what happens between harvest and drinking. An excellent audio guided tour (many languages spoken) over the upper gallery of the modern factory (!) where the process of blending, ripening, storing, freezing, filling and packaging is thoroughly explained while you're looking at the actual action. Very educational, not only for your inner boy. And yes, at the end a possibility for tasting and buying the stuff. Firmly recommended.

Our visit to Veuve Ambal today was very popular with all the family. For kids that have never seen automated production ours were spellbound. Each person has an audio-guide in the language of their choice, so after 3 months in France this was the first tour I've felt I didn't miss out on 50% of the information due to poor French comprehension. You pace the tour at your own speed and for once the kids weren't rushing ahead as they wanted to see the machines and robots do all the processes (not so interested in the history as I was). We spent an hour watching machines and bottles whizzing around the factory, then we went for a tasting. The staff who provided the tasting went out of their way to be welcoming and informative, meaning we spent another hour there. The children got all their questions answered, as did we, and learnt lots more outside the scope of wine production per se. If we didn't feel we were taking up all their lunch break we would still be there. Having toured many wineries before we were surprised by how interesting this still was - due to all of the automation mainly. The tasting was very generous. We departed with great gifts for folk at home (bubbly bottle stoppers) and bubbly for ourselves. The children loved that they got to taste non-alcoholic bubbly in the real glasses. Drawing materials were also provided for when the adults wanted to continue tasting sans-enfants. Highly recommended for a family outing of interest to all

Great visit, particularly if you like machines and sparkling wine (I like both). You take yourself around at your own pace with an audio guide. Tastings afterwards done by very knowledgable and nice people. Nobody has yet tasted all 17 wines (there's a challenge)

We were looking for a start of our Bourgogne wine tasting and Veuve Ambal was a pleasant surprise Cremant de Bourgogne os actually a methode chanpangoise, they have a lovely gift shop and very hostpitable staff to explain the various vintages. We decided to take the tour of the wine making process and the self paced audit tour was excellent (available in many languages), starting from the family history of the winerery to the various steps in making the wine. I thought I knew everything about wine, but I realized I knew nothing about champagne, well worth the €7 fee

Veuve Ambal is one of Burgundy's biggest wineries specialising in Cremant de Bourgogne. They're based in a modern new facility just outside the town of Beane. The self guided audio tour costs 6 Euros per person. Having previously visited a champagne house and a similar sparkling wine producer in the Loire who both have more traditional premises with underground cellars it was really interesting to see wine production in state of the art facilities. Despite the modern setting Veuve Ambal was founded at the end of the 19th century. The tour takes place on balconies overlooking the various production areas so you can see exactly how the wine is made. Like many attractions in France the audio guides are automatic and each commentary is triggered by walking past a particular point on the tour which make them really easy to use. We spent about 45 mins on the tour and finished off with a tasting of 4 wines in the shop. Staff were very friendly and welcoming which made for a very enjoyable visit.

Pierre was so much fun and the wine was good! It was great to learn about the wines and then taste without knowing the winery or the cost.

Easy day trip by train from Dijon. We arrived in Beaune, traipsed about old town, picked up some sandwiches for lunch in the park, then took a quick taxi to Veuve Ambal for an afternoon tour of the bottling facility. No vineyard on this tour. We arrived a bit early and we treated to an early tasting to while away the time. Self-guided audio tour to listen to as you amble along the catwalk over the bottling floor. Detailed explanation of the process and family business history. Of course, we joined our group at the end for another tasting! Our obliging taxi drivers returned us to the train station in plenty of time to catch a train back to Dijon. Delightful time had by all!
