Lakeland drive

Plenty of areas around the lake to walk and take in the beautiful scenery. Forest trails abound and we found a few places to stop for a drink and a meal.

A pleasant place to rest, but few amenities. The drive to the access spot was long through the hazelnut groves.

Popped there whilst visiting Northern Rome. Fantastic views, and friendly locals. Highly recommended

An extensive part the lake and the surrounding hills (it is a crater lake) falls within a National Park. There are good walks and peace and quiet. In one area there is a beach with free deck chairs Monday to Friday with cafes / bars behind. which make it very pleasant to sit and admire the view, snooze or even... More

A very beautiful fresh water lake in the outskirts of Viterbo. There are several picnic areas and restaurants. I guess thare are also spots for hiring boats and sundry water sports. It can be rather deep so children must be supervised at all times. Its majestic beauty is terrific and reminds me of a beautiful loch.

Gorgeous place to have a magnificent meal with a magnificent view. Had one of the most thoroughly delightful meals of our lives at Fioro's. Not much else to do here but the food/view combination was exceptional

Beautiful, peaceful lake. Warm, clear water. Good place for all ages. Our 1 year old was very happy toddling around. The only disappointment is that if you want to go for a walk you're slightly limited to the beach part.

We were staying in Orté - but wanted to swim without driving to the coast. This find was a treasure. I'd suggest taking the time to find locals and ask where the best public swim beach is - but we simply drove into the private parking lot of a beachside cafe and asked if we could park and enter the... Pure, transparent water in this ancient volcanic crater makes it the best place to swim near Rome. I've never seen it too crowded like the sea beaches get in Italy. There are restaurants serving fresh lake fish (pike-lucio, perch-persico, whitefish-coregone) in many delicious ways, right on the shore, so you can swim in the lake, sunbathe on the black volcanic...
