We drove from Tamarindo. The road was rough in our rental sedan, but we were so glad we went. I would recommend dining at Lola's, a sustainable and delicious restaurant on the beach.

This is an incredible beach surrounded by people who are just having a wonderful time. You can stay all day here. There is a pet pig on site in a pen. We saw early one morning on the beach. You will not her often. Also...More

Avellanas beach is a 45 min drive from Tamarindo, Guanacaste. The road is not in good shape, a 4x4 is recommended. The beach has lots of space so you can get your own area, no one will disturb you. There is only one restaurant/bar that...More

Great beach, beautiful area, good swell but a rough ride to get there! Love it - can't beat it for beauty. And Lola's is a great place to eat!

It's not easy to get too - a few miles on a very bumpy dirt road - 4wd recommended! - but it's totally worth it. Great spot for surfing. Beach is uncrowded with lots of trees for shade and a terrific beach side restaurant- Lola's.

Pretty sure this is my favourite beach in Costa Rica - and there is stiff competition! We stayed near Playa Negra - which is also beautiful - and visited Playa Avellanas on a day trip. The accessibility of Lola's restaurant makes the beach that much...More

It was so much work just to get to this place. Perhaps during the busy season, it would be worth it to go here to avoid the crowds at Playa Tamarindo, but for us this was more trouble than it was worth.

Lola's its a nice beachfront restaurant to hang out but i think its the only place there to do so. Lola is a huge pig there btw.

I would recommend contacting Iguana Surf they are in Tamarindo. They can rent you a board and make arrangement to get you there, they can also provide you an instructor if you wish. I would suggest staying in Tamarindo... More
