I really enjoyed learning about this POW camp and the Great Escape. The man who runs the museum is so excited and passionate about the history, it's infectious. It was also nice that they had a movie in English about Zagan, the camp and the history. The path in the woods is also well-marked and neat to see where the... More

Truly sobering location to remind one that Freedom IS NOT Free. In this case men from many Allied nations faced untold hardships to include execution, so that the world could defeat fascism. Sadly for many they had to ensure communism and all of it's brutal hardships before the locals could taste freedom. Restored by the locals from Żagań Poland, to... More

A short story of the location: it is the site of the most courageous escape, resulting in the killing of 50 prisoners including Polish flight officers. This episode of history was the subject of the film "The Great Escape", starring Steve McQueen. It was the biggest and the most deadly escape of officer aircrew captured by Nazi Germany during the... Its nice to see that a museum remains to commemorate the prisoners & shows there bravery & ingenuity at attempting to escape. Prior to traveling to the site I had also watched the Discovery program which detailed the excavations carried out in an attempt to locate the tunnels. With the limited resources there excavation work is unbelievable. The graves of... More

My brother arranged this visit as part of our WW2 history holiday. The museum is small but perfectly formed and despite our visit being outside of opening hours, Marek, the Director, gave us a magnificent tour filled will interesting annecdotes and facts about the Great Escape. I could have listened to the history and stories for much longer. It is... More

WORDS CANNOT EXPRESS THIS PLACE. My wife and I traveled from Charleston SC after contacting the Direct Marek Lazarz. Marek was absolutely amazing and treated me and my wife like family. He gave us a tour of the museum and took me to the spot where my grandfather lived while a POW during WWII. The professionalism shown and the knowledge... More

This is a superb place if you take an interest in WWII history. Place where "The Great Escape" took place is definitely worth visiting.

This was an interesting place to visit. The museum is quite small but has a lot to offer. I have been here twice in 2016 and both times it was very quiet. I would definitely watch the great escape prior to visiting this site. The museum is upstairs in the big building, note you need to press the bell to... More

The remains of the camp are scarse but what's there still leaves an impression. All things that can be observed are accompanied by a short text in 4 languages. The path of tunnel Harry is visualized and the foundations of the hospital wing (100m long) show how large the encampment must have been if this is only a small part... More
