Overview
More
The most popular folkloric festival in Brazil, Boi Bumba (Bumba Meu Boi) celebrates the legend of a sacred bull, who died and was brought back to life by the magical power of drumming. During the festival, various groups recount their own versions of the well-known myth through a colourful combination of costume, dance, drama and drumming. While celebrations take place in towns and cities across the country, one of the most authentic of these is in Parintins, Amazonas – also known as ‘the city of the bulls’ – where the festival has a distinct Amazonian flavour, and the carnivalesque atmosphere is especially contagious.

A remarkable one-hour performance of non-stop rhythm by a group of at least 50 enthusiastic dancers, some in elaborate costumes, and in an air-conditioned hall that has seating for 500 people! There were at least three scene changes, with four- story high floats of giant...More

Today we had some freedom to walk around the small town of Parentins at our leisure before our afternoon Boi Bemba show, more of that later! As we made our way out of the cruise terminal from our tender, passing the souvenir stalls with all...More

This is a relatively remote town accessed by boat. But within it this dance group does an authentic and flamboyant show with a true link to its culture but enhanced by good sound and lighting in an AC building. I have been to Brasil several...More

This is definitely one of the highlights during a cruise on the Amazon. The Boi Bumba show (+/- 1 hour) in the Convention Center of Parintins is a fantastic show : despite the small hall the decors are huge, the costumes of the dancers are...More

This is one of the very best "folk" shows I've seen, anywhere! I was expecting another 'ho-hum' folk demonstration - the kind I've seen so many times before. Was ever pleasantly surprised. It was over the top, with costuming and enthusiasm! I lost track of...More

The Boi Bumba Folk Show is something you don't want to miss. It is so much fun watching the locals in their costumes dance and play around. There are a lot of beautiful people in Brasil.

You can easily walk between the show and a cruise ship. In, fact , we had no choice with Regent after the show, and they absorbed the price of the show, as is their policy. The performance is in an air-conditioned hall, and... More

Those of us on a Regent cruise had to make our own way to the show. The show was in the PM.
