We went there after we were done with the snorkeling at Mabul. Took a mini bus which costs us RM15 per person to Tawau town and had to opt for another taxi which costs us RM50 one way (usually should be around RM40 one way). Decided to take the Bombalai jungle lodge which is located very near to the headquarter... More

The park is our weekly weekend run stop but we did have the occassions now and then to go in to the recreational areas. The water is ideal for river bathing with spots for kids who do not know how to swim and there are guards to watch over picnickers. There are places for barbeque so its a good place... More

Half of the trails are closed and under construction. Same with the accommodations - only the more expensive ones are available right now. There is no bus going there - so get a cab from tawau city for about 30-40 rm BE WELL PREPARED for the LEECHES!!! I think we collected about 60-80 leeches from our bodies

I've stayed here for 6 days, hiked up to Mt. Lucia and halfway to Mt. Magdanela. We spot a lot of interesting animals such as Gibbons, red leaf monkeys, several species of hornbills such as rhinoceros, white crown, black and etc, birds, civits, scorpions and even snakes. We've done a lot of walks in the forest day and night and... More

Make sure to be properly dressed, unlike us. We walked the two hour trek in shorts and T-shirt, which resulted in having to stop after every second step and sweep leeches off our legs - quite disgusting. When we finally came to the hotsprings, they were dried and and only the smell of rotten eggs was left - and of... More

I was looking for a half-day trip around Tawau Airport after diving in Sipadan and it was a good choice to visit Taman Bukit Tawau (Tawau Hills National Park). The park offers several jungle treks in low altitude (half-day to full day, all below 300 m altitude). It is possible to visit warm vulcanic sulphur springs, several waterfalls (bathing), a... More

i wish to go to canopy walkway but badly i was stuck with the rain for almost an hour. so, my friends and i just walk away around the park, touched the water and go back to the town before the day becomes too dark. its about 20km from the town and i think without own transportation, maybe its hard/very... Very good place for a jungle hike, but beware of the leeches. There are many of them after ~2km down the trail; on the ground, the trees, the leaves. Tuck all your clothes and socks in. Use salt or salt solution to get them off your skin. You definitely have to visit the white sulfur spring. It is a testament... More

I previously wrote about this place but because of time, I only managed to see a small part of this place. This time I stayed a night at one of the chalets and visited the waterfall and hot spring. Both are doable within an afternoon of about 4 hours. The hot spring is rather small and the water is not... More

Tawau Hills Park is an excellent alternative to the super pricey rainforests that are the primary tourist draws - Danum Valley and Maliau Basin. It was about 20 minutes from Tawau, it cost 10RM entry fee, and we saw no other people in the forest at all. You can arrange for a guide and overnight trek and camping for much... More
