We’ve walked the path before and enjoyed taking in the sights and the range of habitat so hoped to explore with our new dog. We arrived with her to discover no dogs allowed. Not a problem but thought it best to share here as I couldn’t find any information about that anywhere else. We walked elsewhere today but wikl be back.

The Balbirooroo Wetlands are full of wonderful birds that you can see and hear. Balbirooroo (a Koori word meaning ‘ibis’).
Here is a little history of it how it came about: In 1993, the Balnarring Primary School community, together with local environmental groups, set out to develop a wetlands and woodlands on what was virtually 9 hectares of grazing land, adjacent to the school. They could see the huge potential for something very special! The vision was to create a thriving habitat for indigenous plants, animals and birds which would become an integral part of the school curriculum and a valuable natural resource for the community. Hence, the school was clever eough to put in some bird hides as well as some interpretive information boards along the tracks. This gives you an idea of what you're seeing in regards to the flora and fauna.
I've always found this short walk a quiet and peaceful place to stroll through and being just under one kilometre (2 kms return), it's an easy one hour activity.
The carpark is a good size and includes a sheltered picnic area.
Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Please take out your own rubbish.

An enjoyable walk with informative boards. Easy walking around a small lake which we didn’t know was there. Took notice of the sign about snakes but the path is quite wide and being autumn we thought it was safe and it was.

What a relaxing way to spend half an hour, or longer. Sit on a bench, listen to the birds. Take your time.

It is a fairly typical wetland that you find on the Mornington Peninsula just off the Frankston Flinders Road in Balnarring and has some nice walks and ideally suited for a cool day.
