Neighbourhood: Haneda / Kamata
Haneda / Kamata is known for its airport with many hotels popping up with the increase in international flights. It’s also an area that offers many shrines and temples with ancient origins including Anamori Inari Shrine or Ikegami Honmonji temple which is visited by more than 300,000 people in October's Buddhist Oeshiki festival. The area around Kamata station is lined with restaurants and is lively until late at night. In particular, it’s known for the large collection of tasty gyoza specialists.

I have been to most of the racecourses in GB and Ireland but none of them compare with Tokyo City Keiba (Oi)
It is reached easily on public transport and even has it's own station on the Haneda Monrail link 100yds from the track. Entrance fee is also an amazing 100Yen (around 70P in English) For a course that only holds low grade racing similar to Wolverhampton in the UK I am amazed at the size of the place. The facilities are the best I have ever seen on a racecourse, there are three huge stands which run the length of the straight with loads of accessible seating and numerous bars and eating places- all at reasonable prices too. You will struggle to find a better value sporting day out anywhere- I would highly recommend a visit if you are going to Tokyo.

As a fan of all things horseracing, my travelling companion and I decided to incorporate a trip to the Oi races into our schedule. (Oi is also known as Ohi, "Tokyo City Keiba" or simply TCK).

There are two distinct racing circuits in Japan, and Oi is one of the best tracks in the Local Government (NAR) circuit, which is almost exclusively dirt (or sand) racing.

There wasn't much NOT to be impressed by at Oi, despite the fact that the rain steadily increased during the evening. There are THREE grandstands, plenty of choices for food and drink, staff eager to help out english speakers, and a great parade ring behind the main stand.

There are carousel rides for the kids (and another area dedicated to childrens entertainment), each race announced by an all-girl trumpet band, fairy lights and fireworks.

There was a healthy crowd when we visited for a mid-week meeting, and the crowd was well behaved and overall the atmosphere was great.

Enjoyable night out with quite a bit of excitement about the crowd, which was sizable as the evening wore on with many coming after work. This was helped by the fact that entry was only JPY100. Food and drink was all reasonably priced with a wide choice available. Overall, facilities were excellent, new and well considered. A nice evening out!

It was spacious and very nice, but I felt that it was a little inconvenient to access from the station! I went to see a G2 race, but it seems that they often hold events, so I thought it would be very interesting to go there at those times.
