The Ueno neighborhood is great to visit during daytime / evening. It shows another "face" during night time when all the hostess bars open.

This is a fantastic part of Tokyo and I devoted a whole say to it. Go here for the landscaped park, the museums and for taking in the spirit of this fantastic city.

There are a lot of restaurants, drugstore, game centers around this area. You can find many exits of metro or JR train from this area. I can buy the cheapest cosmetic from Free-tax shop around this area, too.

Ueno is Tokyo's shopping district, and shopping's all there is! As for restaurants, they're mostly geared towards business men, and you'll get covered in smoke, since they smoke inside restaurants!

This neighborhood is in action. This is a big subway and railroad stop and as such the multitudes are out. The museums are in this area. Which makes it more crowded but not in an uncomfortable way. Get out and enjoy local flavor, people and...More

Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old
Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa.
Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit
a variety of different museums and galleries. At
Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the
grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed
alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at
the end of the year, when many people go on shopping
