It's not quiet per se, but it felt more laid back when compared to other areas, like Shinjuku and Shibuya. The park is great, lots of shopping and museums in the area and it's close to both Asakusa and Akihabara, which are very nice places...More

I love the area. It is truly "shitamachi" = downtown area. It has a mixture of the old Edo and the new Tokyo. Lots of shopping to do and the zoo and temples and zillions of delicious eating places. You just can't go wrong visiting...More

Another ugly district mixing a lousy marketplace with hideous architecture and crowds of people. Feels like third world, waste of time.

One train ride from Narita International Airport, take the Keisei Line and it's half the price cheaper than the skyliner. The Ameyoko shopping street is a shopping haven... cheapest price and limitless options. Also, lot's of restos you can jump on if you're thinking of...More

We stayed in ueno for a week as it was our base. The circular line made it accessible to all other parts of Tokyo, as well as the skyliner from Narita airport. Ueno is clean and safe and less busy than Shinjuku or Shinbaya It...More

This part of Tokyo is busy and bustling. The shops and market are great, and of course, there's the park, which is beautiful when the blossoms are out.

Totally loved the Ueno area. A hive of activity, locals and tourists in their droves and so much to see and do. We wandered through parks, explored temples, had the benefit of a food festival, not to mention a Kimono Exhibition. Great to see the...More

Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old
Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa.
Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit
a variety of different museums and galleries. At
Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the
grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed
alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at
the end of the year, when many people go on shopping
