Wander around the streets of Ueno and soak up the variety of retail offerings. Ueno's sole department store Matsuzakaya is worth a visit. The Basement food court is a classic and even offers short term refrigerated locker hire.

I recommend to choose Ueno as the base to explore Tokyo. This town has everything for tourists, direct train to Narita airport, shopping spots, accessibility to other places, cozy park, museums, supermarket, tons of IZAKAYA and bar,and comparatively cheap priced accommodations. Especially if you purchase Keisei Skyliner&Subway Ticket,Ueno would be the first...More

Lots of lots of shops selling stuffs here and some of them are cheaper if compared to other place. However most of the shops close early if it is rain at night.

Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old
Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa.
Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit
a variety of different museums and galleries. At
Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the
grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed
alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at
the end of the year, when many people go on shopping
