Excellent collection of western art and some significant pieces. Sculpture is very figurative and often in the style of Maillot. Lots of Picasso and rather illustrative French artists.

I found this museum to be one of the better ones I went to in Japan. I might be because I am more partial to Western art than Japanese, but I would say it is worth the visit as well. It can be done quite...More

Leave the Ueno station for Ueno Park and you will be in front of the museum. Some of Rodin's works are displayed outside the museum designed by Le Corbusier. This is an opportunity to see both a Le Corbusier building and a number of sculptures...More

The Rodin statue outside, some Van Gogh inside - pretty good collection. This place is a must for those who genuinely like to spent time with art and sculpture. Nothing compared to the Smithsonians in US, but definitely worth a visit while in Tokyo.

Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old
Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa.
Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit
a variety of different museums and galleries. At
Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the
grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed
alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at
the end of the year, when many people go on shopping
