This museum has a rotating collection. At this time it was about movies. It wasn't bad, but it was almost 3X the price of the other museums and the zoo.

Rarely do I ever say a museum is avoidable. But in this case, the museum is kind of small and the entrance fee is 600 yen (cash only). The biggest issue is that most of the paintings appear to be very similar to the untrained...More

Although the exhibition was great (van Gogh), the museum is very small, it is over prised, that's insane. And the explanations for the paintings are ONLY in Japanese. Disappointing.

Low grade artwork by artists unknown. Absolutely no information on the artists or their subjects in any language apart from Japanese. I wasn't told this when buying my ticket so my visit was a waste of time and money. Fortunately there are other museums in...More

This museum is spectacular in its layout and explanation of the Dynasty system and how the 'lords' governed the county. Just a great way to quickly learn the history of the country.

What an amazing exhibition I saw in this museum! Most of the exhibits in this exhibition were on loan from the Boston Fine Art Museum. Imagine seeing one of your favourite works of art in the flesh. A work of art as famous as the...More

This is Japanese art at its best. A great exhibition, simply displayed. I went early to beat the crowds, but failed. It was very busy and so there was no time to savor the pictures. I do not hang around at galleries anyway, so it...More

Half a day needed, nice walk in the neighbouring park and set in a beautiful building. Great if you have an appetite for learning about Japanese culture and history.

Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old
Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa.
Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit
a variety of different museums and galleries. At
Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the
grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed
alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at
the end of the year, when many people go on shopping
