Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.

We will provide information about "Untenji Temple" in Nishi-Asakusa, Taito Ward. We visited "Untenji Temple" on October 3, 2023. To access "Untenji Temple", exit Exit 3 of "Tawaramachi Station" on the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line, continue straight, and at the first traffic light, there is a "Mister Donut Asakusa Shop", so turn left there and go straight for about 30 meters and you will see "Untenji Temple" on your left.
"Untenji Temple" is a temple of the Otani sect of Shinshu. Although the founding date of "Untenji Temple" is unknown, it is said to have been founded by "Senjun". "Untenji Temple" is a modern three-story building-type temple made of reinforced concrete with a parking lot on the first floor. At first glance, it looks like a home, but it is a proper temple. The entrance to the temple says "Natsumedera", and it is said to be a temple with swaying jujube trees. It is said that it was once nicknamed "Natsumedera".
