I was looking forward to this visit however fell sick a couple of days prior. I engaged with the provider and they were extremely accommodating in refunding the payment. The communication for booking, how to travel and inclusions was very clear and simple. I hope to get the chance to do this next time I’m in town.

Experienced kendo with my partner, and the lesson was a blast. We spent time learning some moves using the sword and Hayashi-san was an excellent teacher who made the whole lesson fun and engaging. He made sure we were well looked after and made the whole experience incredibly.

ありがとうございます、林さん!
Thank you very much, Hayashi-san!

Sensai had a positive attitude and was very motivational. He taught us basics of Kendo (men (head) / kote (wrist) / do (body)), as well as importance of footwork.

My brother and I had a fantastic experience at our first kendo class. The pace and structure of the delivery were very well thought through. We highly recommend this experience for anyone who will be visiting Kyoto or the surrounding areas!

I made a reservation alone on fairly short notice, and the SAMURAI TRIP team were very accommodating and able to fit me into their schedule anyway. The kendo class itself was very interesting and entertaining. I do wish it was only a little longer! But regardless, a very positive experience all around.

We came to Japan determined to experience the culture. If this is your aim, this is the experience for you.

We arrived at the venue, a huge beautiful dojo, not really knowing what to expect of our lesson. We quickly realised that we had Sensei Taiji to ourselves.

I should make clear, we have no experience of Kendo, not even the basics.

Getting dressed into the do-gi was an experience in itself. Taiji was encouraging and showed patience and humour when he taught us the sport's etiquette and then the basics movements.

He is an excellent instructor, demonstrating and explaining clearly as we went along, whilst also making the experience fun and informative.

After a little practice, he pitted us against each other, (great fun) and then challenged us individually. Like a pro boxer, he bobbed and weaved, showing true skill. He then demonstrated just how fast a true proficient is.

This was a truly amazing and unforgettable experience, informative, energetic and above all, fun.

Nothing was too much trouble. Once we had finished, having next to zero Japanese, Taiji booked us a taxi to a local ramen restaurant that he recommended. That was wonderful too.

Thank you Taiji for an unforgettable afternoon.

This was an amazing experience. Hayashi-san was an excellent teacher. We had a misunderstanding and was late to the meet-up location but Hayashi-san was so understanding. Please book with them because the class was so much fun but you will definitely work hard. I came away with new knowledge on basic kendo techniques and a new respect for the art of kendo. You won't regret the experience. Thank you so much Hayashi sensei. Miho-san was a wonderful translator and guide. Thank you Miho-san.

We loved training the art of Kendo with senseis Taka (a bronze medalist) & Yama! The experience was a 10 out of 10! We learned the basics of Kendo and got to fight each other and the instructors. It was a lot of fun! It truly added something special to my 12 yr old son’s first trip to Japan! Definitely something he will never forget or something we can get in the USA! Highly recommend this experience to anyone looking to do something different, fun and very unique to Japan during their stay!
