It is bright, it is loud, it is busy. It is Kabukicho. Travelling with a kid, so just walked around and looked for places to eat. Couldn't (and didn't want to) sample the more legendary, er, entertainment. Am told all that is gone anyway. Lots of tourists, so felt generally safe. Did not understand the clumps of serious-looking men gathered... More

24 hour place. Merges with Shinjuku and is an entertainment hotspot. Lights, sounds, actions! There are places to see girls but it is more discrete than other red light zones. Don't expect to see any flesh. Just come to walk around and have fun. If you are here in the morning you will see drunk Japanese locals still recovering! TOP... More

Where to start... First off this is the Red Light District, so I guess it would be good for you to brush up on your terminology (I won't explain anything, google will though.) You will see all sorts of signs trying to attract you to get in, and if it's late at night, there are a bunch of Nigerians on... More

By mistake , I ordered our lodging in Kabukicho , since it stays very near to Shinjuko Station . At the sunshine hours it looks fine, but at evening Kanukicho becomes the red light disrict of tokyo , In every corner stand somebody to convince us , to visit ,strip bars or to meet "girls" I realy do not recomand... Lots of small bars and restaurants and game arcades. You can walk the streets and even go to the Robot Restaurant!

We loved our walking tour through this area! Bright lights, narrow streets, bustling crowds. Our first night in Tokyo and this area was just what we had expected. Just got to wander around, grab something to eat and enjoy 😊

I wouldn't recommend walking here at night when you're autistic or easily disturbed because there's lights, flickering, colors and sounds everywhere. And then there's the people trying to lure you to men's and women's bars, of course. It's basically a going out/red light district but there's lots to eat and experience of course.

The Kabukicho area is nuts. You will find an assortment of Pachinko parlours, quick-bite restaurants, porn stores and of course the famous Robot Bar here. It is pretty dead during daytime but it fills up when businesses let out and the fun begins. Definitely worth a look even if it's not your scene.

The place is full of small bars, restaurants, and stores. Very nice to wander around and visit every corner and its very safe. Just make sure to avoid people who want to drag you to their place (Mostly africans) don't talk to them just pass them like they don't exist to avoid scams.

Staying in Shinjuku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shinjuku
Shinjuku is the commuting capital of Tokyo, and contains the busiest train station in the world. To the west, there's an office district with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office at its center. To the east, there’s a district with long-established department stores, cinemas and theaters. Shinjuku Gyoen is a park originally built as the garden for the Imperial Household. It is quite famous as a venue for cherry-blossom viewing in March and April. In Shinjuku, many restaurants operate all night, and districts such as Omoide Yokocho (Memory Lane) or Shinjuku Golden Machi have back streets filled with tiny restaurants and bars that reflect each owner’s unique taste and style.
