Free admission to the observation deck

I had a few hours hanging around in Shinjuku, went into the Shinjuku Sumitomo Bldg. Free admission to the observation deck, good look at the view of Shinjuku.

We chanced upon this observatory on the 51st floor quite by chance...we were going to try the Kobe beef restaurant on the 52nd floor. So if you'd like a free view of Tokyo without the crowds, go to this one. And if you like Kobe beef, fine dining style, try Sernya. Excellent service and excellent food. Their lunch set is... More

Some nice restaurants found on the upper floors and this is convenient if you are taking a long distance express bus by willer company. The bus stop is on the ground floor. I'd stay at the hotel rose garden if I catch a willer bus and it is within close walking distance.

There are restaurants on the top 4 levels of the Sumitomo Building which are worth visiting for the food and the view. Choice of a few different types of Japanese including sushi, Italian, French and a good teppanyaki restaurant There is a free observation deck on Level 52 but the view is much better over at the observation deck across... One of many tall buildings in the Shinjuku area. I passed by this building for several days before I realized their was a food court on the upper floors and a free observation deck. It is free but the observation deck is located on just one side of the building so you do not get a 360 view of the... More

Great sky restaurants here, and this is the building for the night bus terminal. Take an hour and grab some coffee or pizza on the top floors.

Staying in Shinjuku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shinjuku
Shinjuku is the commuting capital of Tokyo, and contains the busiest train station in the world. To the west, there's an office district with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office at its center. To the east, there’s a district with long-established department stores, cinemas and theaters. Shinjuku Gyoen is a park originally built as the garden for the Imperial Household. It is quite famous as a venue for cherry-blossom viewing in March and April. In Shinjuku, many restaurants operate all night, and districts such as Omoide Yokocho (Memory Lane) or Shinjuku Golden Machi have back streets filled with tiny restaurants and bars that reflect each owner’s unique taste and style.
