Neighbourhood: Shibuya / Harajuku / Ebisu
There are countless opportunities to shop in the Shibuya and Harajuku districts, especially in shops that focus on Japan's "Kawaii" culture. The trendiest areas are around Shibuya’s Center district, Harajuku's Takeshita-dori and in Omotesando. If you need to recharge from all the shopping, you can easily refresh yourself in Meiji Jingu or Sasaki Park. In contrast, Ebisu has a more grown up ambiance of calm and cool. At the Museum of Yebisu Beer you can learn about the beer that was responsible for the town’s name, and enjoy dining at the popular noodle shops in the surrounding area.

Golden gingko painted the garden in cheerful tone. A very relaxing walk to start the day right. Please check out the pictures.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 3 December 2023

It was a nice walk in the rain; however, the cold snap had delayed the cherry blossoms so the park was still in its winter glory. It was nice to see the park had a dedicated bicycle path.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 April 2024

A park with millions of people and no trash left, try that western world! S impressive and then the trees!Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 April 2024
- Tour43637175986Seattle, Washington4 contributionsNice getaway on a MondayTokyo is an amazing city. It's vibrant, fun, and can be a little overwhelming. Yoyogi Park on a Monday, when we visited, was the perfect respite we didn't know we needed. The entire park was covered in beautifully manicured trees. There was hardly anyone around but joggers, groundskeepers, and a few others. Lot's of benches to sit to rest your tired feet and clean bathrooms throughout as you would expect.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 27 April 2024
- Mellie2013Port Moody, Canada2,944 contributionsA MUST Visit!!Wonderfully large and FREE park in Tokyo. Located within walking distance to the TOCHO. This magnificent park is full of lovely mature shade trees, winding paths and an abundance of grass areas to rest, picnic and contemplate life. One of our top sites while visiting Tokyo. Would rival New York's Central Park and Vancouver's Stanley Park. Follow the paths toward the Meiji Shrine and garden. Delightful!! When observing it from the TOCHO, it is huge in this mammoth city centre. Would I recommend a visit to Yoyogi Park...YES! A must visit!!Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 April 2024

It is a popular Tokyo destination and a gathering place for Japanese cosplayers, other subcultures, and hobby groups, as well as those who seek nature and athletics in the middle of a busy city. The landscaped park has picnic areas, bike paths, cycle rentals, public sports courts, and a dog run. We saw many people walking their adorable dogs and strolling along in the drizzling Tokyo rain. This year’s weather stayed colder for longer than normal, so unfortunately, they were having a late blooming year. We hadn’t seen any Sakura yet, but we saw the start of spring in Japan! When the rain let up a little, we stopped at the park’s concession stand. There, we enjoyed Pork Buns, Japanese chip flavors, sake, and a delicious peach drink while watching the world walk by. It was so peaceful.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 June 2024

The park is spacious, with wide paths and lush greenery, making it a haven for both locals and tourists. It's almost unbelievable to find such thick greenery in one of Tokyo's busiest parts. A standout feature is the diversity of activities. We rented bikes, which were inexpensive, well-maintained, and safe, making it a great choice with our daughter. There are no cars, so it's ideal for families with small children. While the park's overall cleanliness is commendable, the public toilets are often very dirty, which detracts from the experience. Despite this, Yoyogi Park remains a delightful escape from Tokyo's urban rush, offering a perfect blend of nature, culture, and activity. Unfortunately, I didn't know where to see them in Yoyogi Park. This time, I learned that they are at the clock tower Sundays at 1 PM. The Strangers put on a great performance on an incredibly hot and humid day. Their love of the rockabilly culture and music was sincere and obvious. What I will remember is seeing Strangers leader Charlie walking around the area cleaning up the area by picking up discarded cigarette butts.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 September 2024

While Tokyo is first and foremost known for its well organized urban life, can it still boast of beautiful green spaces in the inner city. Yoyogi Park is one such example that offers a lush slice of piece and quiet, when the city life seems to have gotten the better of you. People playing chess, walking their dogs or hugging trees can be observed and admired here! Great adittion to the surrounding and one of the reasons Shibuya is such a liveable area in total!

It took us about 3 hours to see the whole park! And it was so worth it. Yoyogi park is behind Meiji Jingu Shrine and one train station away from Harajuku, so it was very easy to make it part of our itinerary. It was the perfect place for a picnic and lots of pictures.

It reminded me of Cambodia, a place I've visited several times. Songs, dances, traditional costumes, and thousands of spectators...before I knew it, I was engulfed in a circle of dancers. The unique rhythm was linked to Japanese songs, and I felt like I had traveled back in time. I went with the flow and wanted to keep going like this forever and ever...

It is about a 5-minute walk from Harajuku Station on the JR Yamanote Line.
We will be visiting Yoyogi Park for the Japan-Indonesia Citizens Friendship Cultural Festival 2023. It is a very large park, and there are groups doing exercise and yoga, making it a very lively park.
This event was mainly held at Yoyogi Park Event Square, and various dance and music activities were held on the main stage.

Tokyo Metropolitan Park is a five-minute walk from JR Harajuku Station. Originally the site of the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Village. Be aware that the fountain area is under construction and sealed off in the next five years or so. We were having a picnic at the time of the COVID-19 pandemic and we were talking about Nisho again lol

This park is at Harajuku and is less than a 2 minute walk from the station. We came here as heard that it was one of the places that had early blooms of the Cherry Blossoms.
We were not disappointed as the blossoms were in the park bit of a walk from the entrance. You could see where the Cherry Blossoms were as there were quite a few people standing around in one particular area. We were glad to see them as it was our last day and an unexpected surprise visit.
You could see locals walking their dogs or even taking their daily exercise. We stayed here a while to soak up the atmosphere.

Seeing it from high above from the Shibuya Scramble Square Building I decided to check out the winter illumination in (part of) Yoyogi Park.
It appeared to be very popular since it was immensely crowded. Actually it is just one straight walk from the south beginning of the park (at the end of Koen Dori) passing the Yoyogi 2nd Gymnasium until you reach the road towards Harajuku station. The total length of this walk is almost 400 meters. You will walk through a lane of bright blue lights. About half way down you can let three cloches ring apparently to wish yourself merry X-mas and a happy New Year.
The walk is very pleasant and actually quite eerie with that sea of blue lights surrounding you. But it was big fun.

Is the athletics track open to tourists / visitors to train (e.g.. for 1- 2 hours) in early morning or late afternoon? If yes- do we need to register.

Do we need to rent Yoyogi Park to held a public discussion?
If yes, how much the cost?
Please, help me. I need the information as soon as possible
Thank you

When are the performers out on a Sunday? I went last Sunday from around 1-3pm, walked all around the park and there were no street performers. It is only a certain time they do their thing?
Written 8 April 2019
Sorry you missed the street performers: dancers, jugglers, buskers. I have seen them Sunday mornings. The rock dancers usually congregate at the front of the park.

Does the Yoyogi Park have a price to get in? And how long should we leave to adventure in Yoyogi??

Does this park have a playground for young children? If not - can you recommend somewhere in the area that does have play equipment (slides, swings etc). Thank you!

I don't think so but I'm not 100% sure

When does the park close on Sundays? We will be in the area after dinner and wouldn't mind taking a stroll if we can.
Written 6 January 2018
Yoyogi park does not close during the night. I always, especially in summer time, have picnics with my friends.
I think a lot of people are confused Yoyogi park and Meijijingu which is the shrine attached to Yoyogi park. Meijijingu closes at 5 and last entry time is 4 I believe! Happy holidays to you :)

Hi everyone. We've been really looking forward to hanging out in Yoyogi Park to soak up the Cosplay and Rockabilly vibe. To our horror we've just realised we won't be in Tokyo on a Sunday! Doh! What are the chances of seeing any Cosplay action on a Saturday? Or on weekdays for that matter? Thanks in advance...
Written 18 March 2017
Sometimes you can cross Rockabilly and Cosplay by walking around Tokyo. But in Yoyogi park, on Sundays, you have bigger chances. Better change your plans if you really want to see them in action!
