Neighbourhood: Shibuya / Harajuku / Ebisu
There are countless opportunities to shop in the Shibuya and Harajuku districts, especially in shops that focus on Japan's "Kawaii" culture. The trendiest areas are around Shibuya’s Center district, Harajuku's Takeshita-dori and in Omotesando. If you need to recharge from all the shopping, you can easily refresh yourself in Meiji Jingu or Sasaki Park. In contrast, Ebisu has a more grown up ambiance of calm and cool. At the Museum of Yebisu Beer you can learn about the beer that was responsible for the town’s name, and enjoy dining at the popular noodle shops in the surrounding area.

After a few stays in Shinjuku I changed it up and now stay in Shibuya. I am glad I did as I find Centre-gai to be a little less, hmmmm shall I say gritty than Kabukicho. There seem to be less bar totes to annoy you and the place just has a more wholesome feel to it. Am going back in a week and am looking forward to it.

One of the famous tourist wards in tokyo besides shinjuku and chuo (ginza). Like the other 2, there is everything here - shopping malls, restaurants, cafes, crowds. I’ll come here for sushi at mark city, shibuya crossing, bit of shopping

The place to go at night if you enjoy lively places !
Great to see all the crazy Shibuya fashionistas that go to this district for some entertainment.
Pleenty of restaurants to try some genuine Japanese food.

This is a must-see when in Tokyo. Known for the famed Shibuya-crossing and the Hachiko dog statue. A good place to view the shibuya crossing would be the Starbucks directly facing down at the crossing; but be forewarned, the Starbucks get really crowded.
There is a fast-food restaurant just a few shops down the starbucks that sells pizzas, which I would suggest you to check out. They make really great pizzas at really affordable price.
Would also suggest walking further down to visit Tokyu Hands where they have an entire building filled with interesting gadgets and items.

Not only lights but also stores and restaurants everywhere. People are part of the attraction, they wear and consume local goods and costumes and give visitors a lesson of culture. You can find street singers and artistic presentations. Cool place.

Restaurants, bar, pubs and everything you want, all together in this amazing place. In the heart of Tokyo, from here you can reach all the other destinations in few minutes with the subway.

When you think Tokyo, you will probably think of Shibuya. It's got the "big crossing with all the people walking in different directions." Shibuya is hectic, crazy, energetic and exciting to be in. It's a bubble of shops, restaurants, bars and clubs. If you arrive into Shibuya on any JR line, here's a tip, follow the signs to the "Keio Inokashira Line". Just before the entrance to said line there's a huge window looking out onto the crossing where you can look down at the madness. No need to go to that Starbucks in the small chance you'll get a seat near the window!
For a crazy shopping experience, visit 109, you can't miss it if you're near the crossing, it's a tall building with "109" at the top. It consists of loads of little boutique shops on what feels like 100 floors. Usually Japanese shop attendants will keep a distance, but in 109 prepare for confident, colour contact wearing, stylish young women to confidently approach you to try and make a sale!
I would definitely recommend visiting Shibuya at night. While still a fun place in the day, the place comes alive at night and all the screens and lights make it an unforgettable sight.

You can just walk through this maze of bars or you can go into one. If a door's open, the bar's open. If you're told no room, it means either they have no room or it's locals only. Don't be offended.
We found a rock bar on a 1st floor which was great. Small & smokey with Bowie on the video screen. Smattering of English spoken was but lots of smiles & we were sold sake!
A lot of bars have a cover charge but most advertise whether they do or don't on the door so be aware.

Come to Tokyo and not take a walk across the famousShibuya crossing will be missing something. We were there in winter, no matter the cols, the snow, thw wind and the rain, Shibuya is always packed with tourist, student, and shoppers. When the lights turn red traffic stops completely and pedestrians cross from every sides. Then just follow the road and you encounter the famous Shibuya 109, a big mall , there is one for women and one specialise in men clothing and accessrories. There a nice hotel around Grandbell hotel, see my review about. Shibuya as a lots of bars, restaurants, and do not foget to visit Hachuko, the famous dog statue, just next to the train station. Shibuya is alive 24 hours a day.
