Top ways to experience Shibuya Sky and nearby attractions

The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Shibuya / Harajuku / Ebisu
There are countless opportunities to shop in the Shibuya and Harajuku districts, especially in shops that focus on Japan's "Kawaii" culture. The trendiest areas are around Shibuya’s Center district, Harajuku's Takeshita-dori and in Omotesando. If you need to recharge from all the shopping, you can easily refresh yourself in Meiji Jingu or Sasaki Park. In contrast, Ebisu has a more grown up ambiance of calm and cool. At the Museum of Yebisu Beer you can learn about the beer that was responsible for the town’s name, and enjoy dining at the popular noodle shops in the surrounding area.

    Scenic Shibuya Oasis
Shibuya Sky is a captivating observatory deck offering breathtaking views of Shibuya Crossing. The bustling cityscape below unfolds before your eyes, providing a mesmerizing spectacle. With comfortable seating and a relaxed atmosphere, it's an ideal spot to unwind and soak in the vibrant energy of Tokyo's iconic intersection for hours on end.

Incredible view from the 18th tallest structure in Japan
We enjoyed visiting Shibuya Sky. Entry for the observation deck costs 2200 Yen for Adults and 1700 Yen for high school-aged children and you must book in advance – at least in the summer when we went. The view is fantastic, and you get to watch ant-sized people cross the Shibuya Scramble Crossing below. There is a distinct lack of shade on the deck, perhaps to discourage people from staying for long, and staff don’t love it if you come inside for a while and then go out again. If you say you are going back to the lockers to get something that seems to work, as they quickly lose track of you and you can go back up again. On a clear day, if you face WSW and squint, you might see Mount Fuji. Once you’ve had your fill of the view there is a gift shop and a café to visit.

    Lovely views of Tokyo
Shibuya Sky is located at the top of Shibuya Scramble Square. You take a lift from the 14th floor, all the way to the top. The observation deck offers a 360-degree view from 229 meters above Shibuya. It's a great way to see the skyline and various parts of Tokyo.

    Don’t miss it.
Amazing experience. It was closed at first due to bad weather but after some time in the shop and inside area it opened. Lots left early before it opened - so I guess the tip is to be patient! Well worth putting on your trip agenda.

    A must do!
A must do while you are in Tokyo! Be sure to book tickets in advanced as it can sell out quickly. Elevator is quick and the staff ensure everyone makes their way up quickly and efficiently. On the top, there a 360degree view of the city, we were blessed with great weather!

    Incredible views of Tokyo!
This newish attraction was definitely worth the hype BUT you absolutely have to book in advance- one month to be exact, especially if you want sunset views. Book about 1 to 1.5 hours prior to sunset. You enter at the 14th floor to access the elevator that takes you to the top. Being outdoors with unobstructed 360 views was such a cool experience. It felt like you could touch the planes flying overhead. When an epic rainstorm blew through, we all rushed to the lower indoor observation deck and watched the storm while the neon lights lit up the city. Even if you can't go outdoors , the indoor observation deck was still very impressive and there was a decent gift shop to boot! Definitely worth the hype!

    Best night view in town
Loved it. It was a bit hard to find. It was easy enough to follow Google Maps but once you leave the train station some of the signs to the elevator for Sky was confusing. Once you leave the train station, just walk around the escalators and go behind and you should see the line of people waiting for the elevators to the sky. We went in the evening and in my opinion, it's better than going during the day. We took some good pictures and there were a few lines of people to take pictures on the corner locations. There is also a line up to have a staff photographer take your picture in a designated area where the ground is lighted which will light up your face. You can line up and have your picture taken but no obligation to buy any photos. When you're done, go down to the escalators and there is an indoor observatory. Spend some time here. O think this is better option than Tokyo Skytree since there's lots more to do here and you can stay at the Scramble Bldg and have dinner. many dinner options!

    Very nice tower in Tokyo
I chose this one to visit among all the high rises in Tokyo as it was open at the top . Just next to Shibuya station , you have to go at the exact time as your ticket if you book online as I did , we went half hour early and had to wait at Starbucks 3 storeys below . Very nice view of Tokyo from above

Make a reservation to experience the View
If i learnt anything from our trip to Japan, it was to make reservations for everything, and even then, you still have to queue, but it just becomes the nature of doing things in Japan. Even with reservations which I booked a month in advance on their website, and being on time, we still queued which meant we missed the sunset, but still got to experience Shibuya at night. It really is stunning and lots of photo opportunities, but you'd need a quality camera to capture the purity. Once in a lifetime experience!

Perhaps the best 360 view of the Tokyo skyline. Reasonable cost but tickets for the best times are very hard to secure. We were able to get tickets online for the prime time of 17:00. This gave us a chance to both have a daytime view and a nighttime view (you can stay as long as you like). It was a great experience, but we only stayed for 45 minutes and didn’t wait for sunset (around 18:30 in April). We felt there were better things to do in Tokyo than staring at the same views. Also, there were long lines to have your picture taken in the best areas. Would have been better if there is a limit to how long people can stay to avoid the lines for the best areas and seats. Having said that, it is still a worthwhile experience.

Awesome view of the city. Going here at dusk is amazing. There can be long lines, but once you are up here you can stay as long as you want.

Very comfortable place to relax amd admire the capabilities of man, as buildings stretch out as far as the eye can see.

The views were great and it definitely is a must try if you are in Shibuya!
That being said, the lines were LONG so I recommend registering online beforehand.

Really loved doing shibuya sky. We did it at night time as tickets were hard got for Sunset. A friend of mine went during the day and I preferred doing it at night. The lights if the city were beautiful. Queue was fine and really well organised. You can spend as long as you want once you’re up there. You need coins for the lockers in the venue. Would recommend doing this!

- Make sure you book your ticket well in advance. We booked 3 weeks before our visit and got a slot on our last day just before dusk.
- You can either access the entry area via the top floor of the mall or get into the elevator at ground level. We were not aware that one can access via the mall therefore we had to wait in line in wet and windy conditions.
- Once your ticket is checked you get on an elevator that takes you from the ticket office/waiting area to the actual observation deck.
- When we arrived it was very crowded with people sitting everywhere. In the hallway and worst of all in front of the windows, partially in groups. This made access difficult. I assume it was because many got an early time slot and were waiting for the sun to set to take night photos? The fact that the roof terrace was closed due to strong winds probably contributed to the crowding. Either way it was unfortunate for those coming later.
- To make things worse there are numerous art installations right in front of the windows probably taking away 15% of the total window space. Another 15% are blocked by the gift shop.
- Whoever was in charge of the lights apparently has never taken any photos at night. Not only are there spot lights shining directly at the windows, additionally there are led strips along the ceiling and most of the art has additional lights. Taking good photos at night without any reflections thereby pretty much becomes impossible.
- All criticism aside: The location is great, you can see most famous land marks including Sky Tree, Tokyo Tower, Shibuya Crossing and of course Mt. Fuji on a good day.

I suggest you book tickets in advance especially if you're planning to go during sundown as it gets rather crowded. Sunset time is also the best time to be there because you can see the beautiful skyline as it transitions from day to night. The view of Tokyo at night is amazing!

Awesome place. Exceeded. expectations. If the weather is nice, you can spend 2+ hours here. Wonderful view of the city and birds eye view of the Shibuya Crossing. Gets sold out early so some planning needs to be done.
