Passing through the JR station near Shibuya? Spend a few minutes to admire Taro Okamoto's Myth of Tomorrow mural.
Very contemporary, brightly coloured and depicting the moment an atomic bomb detonates. Though provoking.
Take a moment to view it. I was disappointed in the number of travellers who just sweep past without nary a glance.

Fantastic mural, absolutely huge, depicting the horror of the moment the atomic bomb detonated over Hiroshima in 1945.
Its such a vivid piece of work and quite poignant.
It spans a whole wall in Shibuya station on the first floor. If you are outside looking at the scrambled crossing, the famous one, look at the overpass above the road. You can actually see the Myth of Tomorrow through the glass panes. Climb up the stairs to the side (near the green train carriage that serves as tourist office or the Hachiko Statue ( of the dog). When you see the mural it will take your breath away.
After looking at it, then around and you have a birds eye view of Shibuya Crossing - two attractions at once!

A haunting 30m mural which depicts the atomic bomb exploding over Hiroshima. It’s inside Shibuya station on the second floor - turn the other way to watch people walk at the famous crossing.

I happened to chance upon this art piece while in transit to another station. It was huge with vivid colors and so was quite impossible to miss.
However, what attracted me more was the awesome view of the Shibuya scramble crossing from this vantage point! I think this place is worth coming just to see a full picture of the Shibuya Crossing in action.

This painting is obviously magnificent, monumental, and represents some of the darkest hours of our humanity. However, it is not really put into perspective by some explanations (or, if there are any, they are well hidden). Difficult to access with the current works.
