The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Shibuya / Harajuku / Ebisu
There are countless opportunities to shop in the Shibuya and Harajuku districts, especially in shops that focus on Japan's "Kawaii" culture. The trendiest areas are around Shibuya’s Center district, Harajuku's Takeshita-dori and in Omotesando. If you need to recharge from all the shopping, you can easily refresh yourself in Meiji Jingu or Sasaki Park. In contrast, Ebisu has a more grown up ambiance of calm and cool. At the Museum of Yebisu Beer you can learn about the beer that was responsible for the town’s name, and enjoy dining at the popular noodle shops in the surrounding area.

It is located on the fourth floor, and you need to take the elevator to get there. Once you get out of the tiny elevator, the space opens up in front of you. You are greeted by friendly staffs, and walk you through their prices, rules and regulations. The price is based on the time, with an option to add treats for hedgehogs. The fee is per person, so more people you have with you, the pricier it will become. We were taken to a seat by the container that had four hedgehogs. We were pretty lucky, since we visited Hedgehog Cafe Harry during a weekday, and off peak, so it was not busy. Another thing that comes with the fee is one drink per person. They have two vending machines, and you get to choose one drink. The paper cup that it comes with were pretty small, so don’t expect much… The hedgehogs are SOOOOOOO adorable!!! You are given a pair of thick gloves, in case they get feisty and bite you. We had that issue with one of the hedgehogs. He was not in a mood to play, just wanted to sleep. Hey, I get it, they have to be picked up and played with all day with strangers, they need some rest every once in a while… But other three were playful and it was so fun holding them and looking at them. Who knew Hedgehog Cafe could be so fun? The treats for hedgehogs came in a tiny little container, and it looked like dried worms? They seemed to like it a lot, but feeding them was not as exciting as holding them. Another animal they had was Meerkat! Another animal we have never seen in real life! We got to pet this cute little thing a bit too. If hedgehog is not your thing, you can opt for hamsters instead as well. They were certainly playful and cute. This was such a unique experience, and very memorable. The hedgehogs were adorable, and I thank them for their patience to play with us silly humans. Please be mindful of these little hedgehogs, be kind and considerate.

    So Cute!!!
We had a great experience at the Hedgehog Cafe! It wasn't too busy when we were there so we were about to move around a lot and see many of the hedgehogs. They looked well taken care of and were just hanging out! They had many options for the drink that is included with your admission and the half hour option is, in my opinion, plenty of time to enjoy the hedgehogs before moving to your next adventure in Harajuku.

    A very tiny zoo
My sister and I went in the late afternoon on a Monday. We did not have a reservation but they had an open bin when we arrived. The hedgehogs mostly wanted to sleep, and did not like being picked up, but they do like eating the little meal worms they sell you as treats for them. The cafe part is not so great since its just a coffee dispenser in the corner. You can't really order human food, so don't expect to stay for lunch.

    Unique experience for animal lovers
I made advance reservation for the visit. We visited on a weekday afternoon and it was busy. We were promptly taken to our seats and the staff showed us how to hold the hedgehog. The kids were apprehensive at first but after some assurance they thoroughly enjoyed the experience. There are also hamsters and meerkat available and the kids spent some time with the hamsters. For us, 1 hour is just enough time to enjoy the experience and also to enjoy the 2 drinks included with the fees. This is a must visit for a unique experience.

Fascinating experience - holding baby hedgehog 🦔
We had a wonderful time here with beautiful baby hedgehogs 🦔 and many otters 🦦. They are so so cute and friendly. My children and I got to feed them and hold them. It’s incredible experience when the otters touched our hands with their very soft hands picking up the food from us. They are so gentle and adorable. 1 hour visit went so quickly, felt like 5 minutes. The staffs were friendly and helpful. We will be back to visit again soon.

We visited the Asakusa branch of this chain so I can’t speak for the Harajuku one but it was so terrible. I can’t believe how much we paid for it - felt like a complete scam.
Couldn’t even interact with the otters as they were all in a cage as they bit people and the babies you had to pay more for above the extortionate entrance fee.
Do not waste your money going here.

They had strict instructions on how to deal with the animals and genuinely cared for them.

I felt so sorry for the nocturnal animals.
I won’t go back. Also, it’s not actually a cafe. I think they try hard but it should be a more appropriate animal for the day time

Very original way to spend an hour. The hedgehogs are super chill and easy to engage with. Pretty cool you also get to hold them. The highlight for us though was getting to meet a meerkat. That was pretty epic. The staff are all friendly and their English was really good. The venue was very clean as well and the animals all looked very well cared for.

Definitely a highlight in Tokyo! Cuddling cute Baby hedgehogs and feeding them. We didn't have a reservation, however walked in and no waiting. Not too busy and plenty of room to move around and see all the hedgehogs and hamsters.
