About
Why don't you learn manga from a professional Japanese manga artist, in English? The teacher can adjust the lesson based on the student's degree, so where you are a beginner or experienced, you can learn something and enjoy the lesson. We have manga tools, such as mangapaper, manga pen & ink, screentone...just bring yourself! Our visitors from various countries have learnt manga at this school, from just one-time lesson to a course that take weeks, or months...from just character drawing to producing a one-shot manga. You can choose any subject you are interested in!

We arranged this class for our 13 year old daughter who is a budding comic artist and a huge manga fan. She just loved every minute of it and felt that she was able to learn quite a bit. Yazawa-san was super nice, friendly and very dedicated and patient. She went well over the 2 hour time working with our daughter until the drawing was finished to her satisfaction. As a side note, the studio is close to the Nakano station (and the anime/manga Nakano Broadway shopping complex) and was very easy to find with the directions provided with the booking. Thank you so much again Yazawa-san for this fantastic experience!!!

Thank you for such a good review! It was really nice she enjoyed and finished her art! Sounds she enjoyed Nakano Broadway too, that's great!
I hope to see you and your daughter again some time!

We wanted to study Manga in Japan and went to Nakana Manga School for a private lesson in December, where we were taught by Nao Yazawa, a Japanese Manga artist. Nao gives her classes in English (which is very unusual), and her school is just a short walk from Nakano JR station. Nao was very friendly and patient, even with absolute beginners like us. Our lesson covered basic concepts of Manga, then Nao helped us make our own characters and showed us ways to improve our drawings. It was a great experience. Manga is far from easy, but Nao was very enthusiastic and encouraging. We learnt a lot in our private class. I wish we could come back and work more from her. All in all, It was a fun experience. I highly recommend it to Manga fans who want to get to know more about this art form.

I booked this experience for my husband and 10-year old daughter who likes manga and drawing. It was a unique experience and getting a private session with the teacher/artist was a treat. My husband says she explained things very well and he learned a lot. My daughter improved her technique. I'm lucky I found this experience in Tripadvisor!!!

At the end of his workshop, my husband said, "Wow, the amount of work that goes into manga is MIND-BOGGLING!"
Our instructor was Nao-sensei, a manga artist most well know for her work on Wedding Peach, a shoujo manga that was made into anime in the 90s. Nao-sensei went over our alloted time in order to ensure we could get a full range of experience with manga tools: from learning the proportions for faces and bodies for women and men, boys and girls, to inking our sketches, "coloring in" parts with a modern ink brush, to applying screen tones.
My husband and I had some exposure to manga. I went through a time in high school where I obsessively copied from manga such as Sailor Moon and Slam Dunk, while my husband has a good eye and hand for copying what is provided to him.
If you're close to the west side of Tokyo and looking for a good way to spend 3 hours in Nakano (accessible via the JR Chuo line), this is a great workshop to sign up for. Either before or after your workshop, you could also while some time away in Nakano Broadway, a must stop for anyone who likes manga, doujinshi, anime, figures, trading cards and video games (both current and retro).

My grandson, age 13, into anime and manga, enjoyed his drawing lesson. The teacher , a published manga artist, was patient and caring and he came away with a masterpiece he was proud of. If you have a child or teen interested in anime and manga, this is a great experience.

We did the two hour class with 5 kids in our group (ages 15,13,12,12,8). Nao is a really good manga drawing teacher and patiently guided each of us in the two hour lesson. Kids were fully engaged for the two hours and we all learned tons about manga!

I learned a lot of things about drawing manga. It was helpful to learn the basics and an educational experience for me. I believe I’ll be able to take what I learned and use it in my future artwork. Thank you Rena-san for the great one-on-one class!

Very detailed instruction, teaching us how placement of facial details determined ages and gender of characters.

Hey! Is it ok to book the small group ticket, as a single person? I'd like to participate with a group but I'm traveling alone. And how do I select a time? Thank you for your assistance!

I'm sorry, group lesson is not for individual traveler. If you'd like to take a lesson, single person lesson is for you. About timewise, you can request it by inquire email or Viator "Special Requirements".
Thank you!
