We recently stayed in the Shiodome area and stopped by the museum when we were walking through the Caretta. It is a small museum that has mixed media displays with TV, print ads etc with explanations in Japanese and English. Very informative with displays that...More

The museum might be small, but you have to allot maybe a half day or full day for it. It contains insightful stuff and tells you so much about the history of ads. The place is very much the epitome of small but terrible. Also,...More

The museum is conveniently located near shops and a train station. I really enjoyed it as there were different media displays and sections devoted to different eras. It ranged from pre-mass media newspaper ads, risque wine posters and the Tokyo 1964 Olympics advertising. I particularly...More

Took us forever to find the place. It's located across the road from Panasonic museum and right before the Dentsu building. To any one looking to go, the museum will reopen on November 1st. Sad I missed it was really looking forward to seeing everything.

It's free but mostly in Japanese. The permanent exhibition downstairs is where it's at and you see advertising from old wooden signs to comical ukiyo ads and kabuki product placements to modern copies of western ads. A very interesting way to kill 30 minutes.

A very informative - and free - museum about not only the history of advertising in Japan, but also how it is a reflection of society at the time. Be sure to watch the introductory video before entering the rest of the museum. Most of...More
