An interesting historical place. All distances in Japan used to be measured from here. Pity about the freeway over the top, but that's Japan!

Nihonbashi was the entrance to old Tokyo back during the time when Samurais where the defenders of the emperor. The 200 year old bridge is still very impressive.

Came across the bridge by chance, camera already inside the bag I thought it was worth the hassle of taking it out again (was in a bit of a hurry) and photograph it, that's how special I thought it was.

I've been Nihonashi area and I really love architecture of buildings around this area. It's old and comblined with modern art. You can walk from Tokyo Station which is the Must place to go in Tokyo.

Back in samurai days, this was the entry point to Edo as Tokyo was called and served as the point from which all distances were measured. The current stone structure built in 1911 is a masterpiece of art nouveau with lions and mythical creatures called...More

I stayed at a hotel in between Ginza and Nihonbashi. I loved strolling the back streets. There are so many dining options.

Lots of excellent places to shop and very nice businesses. Many stores are also in Ginza, but less crowded. Oxy Washi is the best paper store in Tokyo. Kiya has excellent knives.

There are many traditional businesses in Nihonbashi, as well as the original (and still magnificent) department stores (Mitsubishi and Takasimaya). It is the local home of the Japanese financial world, as well as the Tokyo home of several global Japanese pharmaceutical research corporations. If one...More

Supposed to be an important landmark of Tokyo ie the very centre of Tokyo and Japan. No English signs. Nothing much to see except a marker on the road which you need to stand in the middle of the road to see.

Ginza / Tokyo Nihonbashi
Ginza is famous for being a trendy hotspot, but it's
also a downtown area with shops that were founded over
a hundred years ago. Department stores and luxury
boutiques line the route from Nihonbashi to Ginza.
It's a long established tradition to shop and stroll
while the road is closed to traffic. Luxury hotels,
world class cuisine from talented chefs, and a
collection of glitzy clubs will make this area popular
