We were looking for a trendy Mochi ice cream place, which was closed. :/ Luckily we saw a shrine close by on the map. It was the Hie-Jinja Shrine. As soon as we went up the small hill, it was like we stepped back in time and out of the city all together. The shrine stood majestically and induced a... More

Great photo opportunities. A lot of children and adults wearing kimonos when we went. Beautiful gates in the stairs at the back

The shrine is located right by The Capitol Tokyu hotel. It is a great place to go to early in the morning if you have jet lag to get some fresh air and re-center. Just sit on the stairs and chill- at 6am, no one will bother you.

A historic shrine located in AKASAKA, Tokyo. The shrine set up as traditional wedding ceremony area for couples who need to celebrate their wedding. It is peace, quite and very traditional place for vusitors.

This structure was one of our last tours we took. It's really magnificent and reminds me of movies we've seen where many are training for martial arts in the main courtyard areas.

... This one has got 3 distinctive features : the old steep wide stair approach (looked down it from the top), the "side door" multiple escalator ascent (the easy way up!), and the rustic narrow stair with red wooden canopy (at the rear of the shrine, out the right portal) ... and the way we went back down to street... On my first day in Tokyo, we were staying at the nearby Akasaka Excel Hotel, and I left early to explore the neighborhood. I stumbled across these very interesting narrow steps passing under many small torii gates and flags I could not read. Not having any idea what this was or where it led (I thought the signs probably said... More

A peaceful place to contemplate. Worth a look to reflect on everything going on around us! Definitely worth a look.

Place was very tranquil. If you want time alone and meditate, then this is the place for you. Personally I went there to be able to see the several torii gates. Just be sure to be wearing comfortable shoes as you will be climbing a number of stairs. But all in all a very good and quiet place to see... More

Staying in Akasaka / Roppongi

Neighbourhood Profile
Akasaka / Roppongi
Not so long ago the Akasaka and Roppongi areas were famous for their nightlife, high-class restaurants, bars and clubs. More recently, with the opening of Roppongi Hills, Tokyo Midtown and Akasaka Sacas, the area has declared itself as the most fashionable spot to be seen. The area also hosts the National Art Center and the Mori Art Museum and lots of trendy art galleries.
