The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Ochanomizu / Akihabara / Kanda
Ochanomizu boasts its academic foundations starting with Yushima Seido, the birthplace of modern day Japanese education. The area has kept its college town feel with several university campuses. If you head towards Jinbocho, you'll find musical instrument and sports equipment shops, and an area of used bookstores for students and anyone interested in literature and the arts. Akihabara is well-known for its computer and electronic goods stores, and is now hugely popular as the must-visit mecca for people interested in anime and games. Kanda is an office district where you can find loads of reasonably priced izakayas popular with professionals who stop to eat and drink before making their way home.

Either perfect place or living hell
So there are several different mega malls situated in the area, that are overwhelmingly boxy and staffed with everything at once. Spent the whole day in this are, bought so many things my shoulder dislocated. But I’m happy with all of them.

Make an extra subway stop in Akihabra
Akihabra was awesome. It is like a Japanese Las Vegas. They have everything you can possibly imagine there. My advice would be to check out the small shops as well as the big ones. I found great stuff in the basements of many places.

    Electric city
Wowsers! This place is bonkers. Noisy, busy, neon… if you like Anime, this is your Mecca. Shops, literally on top of shops. Lots of arcades filled with teenage boys. Department stores with 8 floors with all kinds of weird and wonderful wares. You have to see it to believe it. Would recommend going at night… the place is LIT!

    Hi-tech, but overpriced
One of the landmarks of Tokyo. The district has a lot of attractions, as well as a big amount of tech stores. Got a feeling, that most of the things there are overpriced. You can get better deals if you happen to travel to Osaka for example. Aside from that - must visit and take a walk in the area. Maybe try some arcades or maiden cafes if that's your thing

Glad we went but not so amazing as we thought
My 18 year old is a huge amine fan and we took this trip to Japan for his high school graduation celebration. Therefore we had to make a stop in Akihabara while visiting as it was one of his top request. Unfortunately there was not much we were able to find to do as most of it was gaming halls and comic book places. Still glad we took him to see it and experience this but wish there was most things to do and see.

Either you like this place or you don't, depending on.....
If you are a fan of Anime or Hi-Tech electronics or gadgets, this very vibrant & colorful place is a must visit. On the other hand if you are not ( like us ), then don't waste time coming here. It is pretty boring. Although we are not such a "fan", we thought we should just pay a visit since we are in Tokyo & heard so much about it. At least now we know what the place is all about. Another interesting thing here are the many colorful Maid Cafes. Understand this is the only place in Japan that has this unique cafes. You see lots of " Dolled Up Maids" hanging around the streets trying to solicit business for the cafes.

If you like anime figures or even just anime, this is one of the best places to go. It makes you feel like a big nerd as you go store to store looking for some good buys. I have basically no complaints.

A place to visit especially for enthusiasts of anime and electronics. There are many stores to check out so if you are looking for something specific, it is much better to know in advance which stores might sell those items.

We went here for Anime items during our Tokyo trip. There are many stores to go thru to find the items you’d like. Didn’t find many Anime t-shirts though. The bright lights are fun at night though!

Its a cool experience and you can buy plenty of old electronics. But its not a good place if you are looking new exciting electronics. Expensive.
