Neighbourhood: Ochanomizu / Akihabara / Kanda
Ochanomizu boasts its academic foundations starting with Yushima Seido, the birthplace of modern day Japanese education. The area has kept its college town feel with several university campuses. If you head towards Jinbocho, you'll find musical instrument and sports equipment shops, and an area of used bookstores for students and anyone interested in literature and the arts. Akihabara is well-known for its computer and electronic goods stores, and is now hugely popular as the must-visit mecca for people interested in anime and games. Kanda is an office district where you can find loads of reasonably priced izakayas popular with professionals who stop to eat and drink before making their way home.

A small shop in a side street in Akihabara filled with Gachapon. You're sure to find something you fancy.

A small shop filled with only gachapon from floor to ceiling. Hard to choose which one you want to try. Worth a little visit if you are in the area.

We spent the afternoon in Akihabara and this was one of our must-visit stores. The Gachapon Hall is packed with hundreds of the toy capsule vending machines (gachapon), selling toys from brands like Hello Kitty, One Piece, Splatoon and more. We must have spent at least $20-30 on those capsules. Favorites included the furry hats for cats (fits our dogs!), mini gachapon machines that dispense mini capsules, and tiny sushi. You can find gachapon all over Tokyo but it is nice to find a ton of them in one place! Must visit if you are in Akihabara and like capsule toys.
