About
The Chiyoda Cherry Blossom Matsuri is held when cherry blossoms are in bloom at Chidorigafuchi Moat, Yasukuni Shrine, and Kanda Shrine, all famous cherry blossom spots. In the evening, the trees are lit up along the Chidorigafuchi walking path and you can rent a rowboat at the Chidorigafuchi boat pier and see the lit-up flowers from the water. Meanwhile, Yasukuni Shrine's Sakura Festival has many stalls, attracting many visitors. On the weekend, free shuttle buses run between the major cherry blossom spots.

Neighbourhood: Yotsuya / Iidabashi
Yotsuya and Iidabashi are areas that developed around the outer moat of the Imperial palace. Nearby in Kagurazaka, there is an old red-light district with a photogenic feel evocative of the ambiance of old Tokyo. Narrow paths with stone paving remain to this day, and there are long-standing restaurants with geishas and quaint old cafes in townhouse buildings.

The cherry blossoms are beautiful over a big fosse under the blue sky. There is the Kitanomaru Park next there. It is also great place for cherry blossoms viewing. It is located near the subway station Kudanshita or Hanzoumon in the center of Tokyo. It is easy to go to the nice restaurant by the subway.

I found this to be a very convenient spot to view Sakura, the cherry blossoms. We took the Shinjuku line from Shinjuku to Kudanshita station. From there you can walk down along the moat which is actually the back of the Imperial Palace. Chidorigafuchi is the area and we saw spectacular array of Sakura. Of course the time of year is necessary to see the cherry blossoms. Late March thru mid April is about peak. It is a tourist area, so if possible earlier in the day to avoid big crowds. At night the trees are lit and shine on the white and pink pedals. If you have time and would like to spend more time admiring the sights, you could take a long snacks or light lunch and find seating along the pathway. A wider walkway is also in spots so I believe it would accommodate wheelchair.

This is a beautiful area to see the cherry blossom, unfortunately for us we visited at the height of cherry blossom season on a Sunday which meant it was very crowded. However, everyone was very pleasant with police ensuring crowds moved effectively. Some beautiful views, great photos and the occasional scent coming across as we went. There were some beautiful magnolia as well. Queue for the boats meant we skipped this delight

Chidorigafuchi is the centre of the Cherry Blossom Matsuri (Festival) in the Chiyoda Ward. I was so glad to go there to enjoy the beauty of cherry blossom.

My wife, daughter and I checked out from Hotel MYSTAYS Premier Hamamatsucho, Tokyo, Minato in the morning. We left our luggage in hotel where no charge is taken for this facility.
From Tokyo station we boarded in a passenger train. My daughter hired a Taxi to reach the Ocean side. We spent about 3 hours. I enjoyed the beautiful ocean scene.
I did not go uphill to walk around the observatory.
While returning we did not get a Taxi. So we sat in Bus. The conductor guided to board in train and dropped at the nearest bus stop.
We came upto a station and fortunately got a Taxi to return to rail station for Tokyo.
The scene will remain in my everlasting memory.

We were here for the start of the Sakura Festival and enjoyed the many food both options but the cherry trees will likely not reach full blossom until the first weekend in April this year, so we will return then. Most booths are set-up by mid-day with crowds increasing in the afternoon.
