The site is nothing to write home about- reconstructed walls, but the view is stunning and worth the climb. The Incas invaded the area and destroyed the place. Yet they authorized local customs and beliefs to continue, expecting culture assimilation over generations.

It’s an uphill clamber so wear your strong shoes. We made the mistake of doing this walk after a short night and a long road trip. Remember that you have to get back too! We were tired as it is high and so walked to...More

The hike to the ruins was about 3 km up hill. The altitude can be taxing but there are plenty of rest stops along the way. The view at the top is amazing. Not only the ruins but the canyon area far below. More of...More

The ruins itself is not very impressive, but the scenery around the archeological site is pretty nice. A photo with the smoke coming out from the nearby active volcano is quite nice. Entrance fee is only 5 sol.

Don't expect too much and this place will exceed your expectations. Ruins by itself are not very interesting. Some buildings are partially restored, some not. But views are really great. The place is not very polished and looks very natural. Trekking is not very difficult,...More

I stayed at Killawasi Lodge in Yanque and took part in a (free) gentle 3 hour walk from the lodge to the ruins and on to the hot baths. The scenery is spectacular and there are a few ruins to see that are apparently unique...More

The hike is not steep at all - it's actually a nice walk. It took us around 1,5 hours. I do not recall rocky paths.
