Lake Grassmere is always and in all seasons beautiful, it has a relatively large car park and walks starts from there. It is not far to get to the lake. It is a peaceful lake with large beach to sit and admire its beauty or...More

Have driven past many times but didn't have time to detour. We did have time once. Not a lot to see. Expected to see an information centre or at the very least some information boards. If either are there there they are not easy to...More

The Lake Grassmere Salt Lakes, while industrial, are a very fascinating place to stop when traveling along Route 1 from Picton to Kaikoura. You will have to be careful and watch for the sign--it comes and goes very quickly. We were there on a Sunday...More

If you like beach walking then keep going past Lake Grassmere to the end of the road. This a wild and secluded beach well worth the effort to visit.

Stopped by on our trip south to show grandaughter the salt piles and explain how salt is made. Could see enough from the road to make the stop worthwhile.
