A cute little bakery filled to the brim with locals on a Sunday morning buying cakes and bread for their families. We were lucky enough to get a table and enjoy our sweets with a delicious cafe solo. The Dulceria San Mateo is situated in the old town of San Mateo amid cobbled streets and well-kept cottaqes. The shop has been baking their own cakes and fudges for decades, featuring almonds that are harvested in the nearby hills. At Christmas time, they offer meat pasties which are legendary. But the turron, or almond fudge, is the great treat. This establishment produces a frightening array of turron bars for any sweet tooth customer aspiring to chubbiness! You can also stop in any afternoon for piping hot coffee and snack. There is limited seating so you may have to take a number and wait.
