The castle stands high above the city with wonderful panoramic views across the area. Free lift ride for over 65s to pay only 2.75 euro. People with mobility problems should be aware that not every where is accessible. Well worth a couple of hours

Interesting castle and well worth a visit just for the spectacular views of Alicante. Although you can walk up from the street it is very steep and I would suggest going up in the lift at least. The cost is just under 3 euros each- free for pensioners if you take passport.

You just know it will have bags of history. And the chance to go mad with your camera - loads and loads of photograph opportunities. I would stress to use the internal lift to visit the castle makes it a lot easier

Santa Barbara Castle has everything you would expect to find in a castle with cannons, dungeon (where 50 prisoners were held during the Spanish Civil War), a palace, a moat, ruins of a church and the famous lookout tower with incredible views across to the Mediterranean and to Alicante city itself, it is a definite photo opportunity. Santa Barbara castle... More

Although it is a long walk up to the castle, we had a good - if somewhat wet - visit here. It is nice to see a historic monument like this not spoiled by silly H&S rails and guards so you get a good feeling of what life was actually like. It was very wet and rained heavily when we... More

We went up to the Castle on segways, which was fun/scary-going back down the steep grade being difficult. But the views were well worth it, 360 degrees of beauty. The town, the distant mountains, the harbor and the water.
