A very interesting place to visit. Part of the entrance fee gains you access to exhibits which shows you the restoration and repairs to the monastery. Beautiful Madonna and child painting/icon. The cloisters and garden are lovely. Well worth a visit.

This monastery has been restored trying to maintain its original magnificence, and its peaceful cloister makes the visit worthwhile. But one thing makes it a must if you are in the neighborhood, and that is the Portal of Santa Maria of Ripoll, a marvel from Romanic times. Simply magnificent!!!

The monastery has been restored, and not much remains of the original structures. More of the cloister than the chruch. However the portal is a must see! Romanesque, dating from the 12th century. The portal has been added to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List

My husband did an ancestry search on the Internet and found he's a descendant of Ramón Barenguer III, entombed here. So of course was necessary for us to make a side trip while vacationing in Spain to see the tomb. What a glorious surprise! This 9th-century Romanesque church is beautifully restored, where we can easily see the power of its... More

This is one of the must-sees of any trip to Catalonia, or of any based on medieval history or architecture. The Monestir (a building half way between a cathedral and a church) is a piece of Romanic style that goes back to the 9th century. Its main entrance features a massive sculptural piece from the 12th century (portalada) - a... More

The monastery was renovated in 1880 after being destroyed by an earthquake in 15c. It dates back to 880 and you can also visit the necropolis abd cloisters. Incredible!

We spent a couple of hours here. It was free parking and entrance to the monastery was a very reasonable 3€ each. It has been restored delightfully as have several other buildings in the town including the medieval bridge that fell down in the earthquake, only to be blown up again in the civil war. A nice morning of history... More
