About
VINSEUM (firstly known as Museu de Vilafranca) was founded in 1934 with the aim of bringing together different collections related to the Penedes region. The permanent exhibition at the VINSEUM is dedicated to the vineyard and wine, and the close connection these have with the Penedes region and Catalonia. The journey starts on the third floor of the Royal Palace and ends with a cava or wine tasting in the tavern of the museum.. VINSEUM will take you on a journey through the stories of wine, to rediscover the footprints it has left us, from its origins to the present time, from the land where the vine stems to the sensorial explosion of wine tasting. Come and experience!

Kids (2-6 year olds) loved the place as well and were engaged through the whole exhibition. Free glass of wine at the end was a nice touch👌

Can clearly recommend this for anyone who is curious on wine. Super nice staff and an exhibition that leads through the most of the most needs to know about wine. A nice bonus is that they offer a glass of cava at the end

We visited on a tuesday, it was free entry with a free glass of wine at the end - what's not to like really?

There is an audio guide, i am not a fan of audio guides but i thought i would try this out. For me there is far too much information on there, i think there are more than 400 items with audio to listen to, i gave up after number 3

So i just wandered round instead, not really sure what to make of it really - We had just come from a visit to a local winery so i guess our hopes were quite high - i am not really sure what this museum is trying to say really - maybe less really is more?

The wine at the end was very good, but i think this is an opportunity lost - with little information given about the wine we were drinking or why this museum was serving this wine or where it was from or the makers or anything - i get more information at a bar

I would recommend going when its free to visit, if we had left after paying 14 euro for both of us i might have been slightly disappointed

Visit well worth the €7 per person. Very informative although I don't think the audioguides added anything. Lockers available to stow baggage during the visit. Free taste of the wine in the attached taverna afterwards.

The museum was quite interesting but they can't decide whether they want to be informative or entertaining so do neither especially well. The exhibits could be interesting if they were better explained. There is a multilingual electronic guide but it has too much flowery waffle rather than providing information. It's a great concept so I hope they can improve it. The tasting at the end was disappointing - a bored woman poured a glass of Cava but nothing else was offered, so missing an opportunity to promote a range of Penedes wines. It is within walking distance of Vilafranca railway station.

Thank you very much for your comment zebede65. We are happy to hear that you had a nice time at the museum. In VINSEUM we consider the tavern our last showroom because it allows visitors to experience with the senses everything that has been seen throughout the permanent exhibition of the museum. We hope to see you again soon in Vilafranca del Penedès

This is a thoughtfully and professionally laid out museum, which educates and entertains using a mixture of static displays and competently produced videos.

It also boasts an auditorium with full conference facilities. The museum provides educational and research facilities, information on which can be got by e-mailing cdv AT vinseum DOT com.

A specific interactive educational facility in the form of an attached wine bar is well worth exploring. This is the only museum I have ever visited where a glass of wine is included with the price of the entry ticket!

Well worth a visit.

Thank you GervasDouglas for your opinion. I guess you had a nice experience at VINSEUM! If you want information for research you should write at cdv@vinsem.cat (not dot COM) And I must alos add that we include a glass of wine in the ticket price because we understand that the wine bar is our last exhibition room, and that what we show in our exhibition must be experienced first hand at the end of the visit. I hope you come back sometime to Vilafranca. See you soon!

We spent an hour here and did not manage to see everything. It is largely concerned with wine making in the region and as this is such an important aspect of Catalunya we found it added to our enjoyment of our stay, which, it had to be admitted, did involve quite a lot of sampling of and finding out about the local produce.

Thank you JeffabdJane15 for spending some time in giving your opinion. In VINSEUM our main objective is to help visitors understand that wine is much more than just an alcoholic drink, it is part of our culture. We hope you find time to visit us again and finish your visit to the exhibition. See you soon in Vilafranca!

If it's open, you must visit this place for a glass of wine. Fantastic selection of very good local wines and freshly made tapas. Didn't eat here but from what I read they weren't your normal, boring tapas.

Thank you Julie P for giving your opinion of the museum. We are really convinced that after visiting the exhibition the tasting experience is much more special. For this reason we undersatnd the museum's tavern as another room of the museum.
