Plaça Major is the main square in the old town of Vic, a town in the center of Catalonia. Really, it is the most important place in the town. If you visit thw town and walk in the old town, I am sure you come here. In the square, you can see a lot of very beautiful building, some shops and restaurants. Also each saturday here there is the main market in the town (in pre-pandemia times). A fantastic and historical place, which nowadays it is not asphalted. Great place, pitifully when I visited the town (at the end of March), some parts were on works, so you could not see all the square.

Vic is located 69 km from Barcelona and 60 km from Girona. It's position has made it one of the most important towns in central Catalonia. It is said to be famous for its sausages and other pork derivatives. A walk through the enchanting old town feels positively quaint. Approaching the town centre from the station, you will come upon the Plaça Major—a wide open, unpaved space that hosts the bi-weekly farmers’ market. With historic buildings surrounding it. On Tuesdays and Saturdays, the square is filled with vendors selling all sorts of meats, cheeses, vegetables, homemade jams, local honeys and fresh flowers along with others selling clothes and accessories. The Mercadal (Market Square) or Plaça Major is one of the best known and most dynamic sites in the city. The market has been held here since the 9th century, long before the first houses that frame the present-day square started to be built.
Catalans often claim Vic to be one of the strongest bastions of Catalan pride in the region. Recently, it was notably the birthplace of the Association of Municipalities for Independence, formed in 2011, as an organisation which aims to further the national rights of Catalunya and to promote the right to self-determination.

This square is surrounded by many restaurants, bars and coffee places and seems like a regular hang out spot for the local crowd, some joints stay open half the night. Tuesdays and Saturdays are market days, and the Placa is packed with people - you can get anything there, vegetables, flowers, cloths, accessories and household stuff, just to name a few.

Drove to Vic, Spain based Google search results... Found the town to be mostly unremarkable, the Plaça Mayor was OK but rather simple when compared to others in Spain.

The historic Bridge would have been nice to see with the exception of Christmas pop-ups and construction all around it...was surprised to see most stores closed, possibly out of business.

In summary, the visit wasn't worthwhile for us, though we did have a very nice lunch at Via Restaurant!

..being used as a crowded market place as usual or empty and lonely. Something was missing, the whole plaza looked like a bull fight arena during the intermezzo.

Myself I was rather happy the place was empty so I can enjoy the view of the entire square and its quietness of the morning. Building are nice and set apart, the place is really large but then, again, it looks empty. Once in Vic you can’t really go anywhere in the old town without going through it. Must do!

Some interesting building surround this place in special to buy "fuet", thin spicy sausage tipical of Catalonia)
A little charming but not too special.
Some terraces in a further no too turistic city, may be because i found serious-minded people who argue avoid "spanish" or similar sense (french too)

Interesting market place with a lot of activities around. It is one of the highlight place of the Vic. It is slightly bigger than one would expect to find in a town of this size.
Vic is an old town in the center of Catalunya with a rich history and worth to visit and spend a couple of days.
Placa Major is a market place for local products. Around the market place there are very nice shops as well.

A pedestrian place in the heart of Vic. Specially interesting during Tuesday or Saturday's Market when fruits, clothes and forniture are sold in tipical little shops.
