It is a small zoo, and it is a very cheap zoo, especially if you're a foreigner and bring your passport. But a number of the enclosures are dated, and have nothing in them to keep the animals interested. The elephant enclosure is far too...More

This zoo is more like a zoo-lite, do not expect anything super fancy or big, but hey, it is only 320¥ entry fee for adults (after a 20% tourist discount) and kids under 12 are free. You get to see a LOT of different animals,...More

Charming zoo, very small though. I especially like the guinea pig petting area. The animals here are not much exotic, mostly domestic animals. Oh, there's Hanako, Japan's oldest elephant. She's a dear.

The elderly elephant looked like he needed some company; other exhibits included some monkeys, deer, a tanuki (raccoon dog), a walk-through cage with squirrels, a guinea pig petting area, and lots of large birds. There are several places to buy snacks, drinks, and ice cream...More

The oldest elephant in Japan ? The world? Lives here. A lovely zoo near the Ghibli Museum makes a fantastic day out for families. Super cheap, 640 yen for our family of 5. Kids rides are 50-100 yen and are simple fun. No crowds, plenty...More

This is a good park to bring kids, out of town visitors, and to meet with adults. There is a small man-made lake with rentable row boats and "swan boats". There are restaurants that line park and Kichijoji is a great place to wander. Very...More

You are so right!! The least the zoo could do is to put down layers of straw inside and outside for a little more foot comfort. Also a couple large potted trees along her walkway. She probably has never seen or smelled a... More
