I wouldn't got o Mount Takao purely for this temple but it is a nice add on for a stroll along the Takao walking paths.

I visited when the autumn colors were still out and it was a magical experience - the temple itself was unique with tengu (mountain guardian) statues and dango stalls, which was perfect for the chilly weather.

It is on the way to the top of Takao so it is a great place to stop, discover, recharge and take some great photos. It was very busy mid-week when I was there but don't allow that to stop you. Everything is in Japanese and I had no idea what the local people were doing or what was involved with many of the stalls selling all sorts of religious trinkets. But that is the fun of it observing customs that are different from your norm.

This is just a moderately-sized temple on the way up Mt Takao. Quite a few statues of men with beaks. Nothing extraordinary compared to the many beautiful temples and shrines in Japan, but pleasant enough.

The Takaosan Temple is on the way up the hill towards the top of Takao. The displays are really pretty cool to look at, old and sacred. There's numerous places for sitting and meditating, resting and just taking in the peace of the area. try it!

...if you want some peace, away from the crowds. Fabulous statues of Tengu. A must see for Tengu and Yokai aficionados. As for goshuin, avoid the skinny guy, who writes the sloppiest goshuin with a blunt brush.

On your way up via trail number 1 (and possibly trail number 3 as well) you will pass this Temple complex for sure. It's really a fine looking complex with a lot of activity taking place there. It's really worth a further looking around there before you continue your climb up. Most prominant are the statues of two gods, one with a long nose and one with a crow beak. You can find them at different places on the Temple ground as well as the different souvenir shops in all kind of forms and shapes.

Having visited around 20 Temples and Shrines in Kyoto and Tokyo during 2 weeks of our holiday in Japan, this place is mediocre, especially since tourists are not allowed to enter the Temple.

You will come across this temple while hiking up to the top of the Mountain Takao. There are small shops next to it. It's a good experience to have while visiting Japan.
