About
The Château Smith Haut Lafitte, Grand Cru Classé de Graves, is both one of the oldest Bordeaux wine properties and one the most pioneering in its approach to the terroir, the quality of its wines and in its insatiable efforts to meet the connoisseurs' satisfaction. For 25 years now, Florence and Daniel Cathiard have inspired SHL a momentum toward nature called "Bio Precision". The quality of the red and white first and second wines grows constantly in the eyes of the national and international critics and the grand vin enthusiast witness it every day as the doors of the underground cellar, the new 100 % gravity operated vat room, the renovated cooperage and the positive energy Stealth Cellar are open all year long, upon appointment.

I had lunch nearby so I decided to take a tour at the Château. Booking on the Château’s website was quite simple. We were walked through the process of barrel making (only 4 in Bordeaux that do this), wine making and aging process, soil types and how that yielded the taste. I read about most of this before, but hearing and seeing in real life including interaction with a knowledgeable guide made a huge difference. The tour concluded with, of course, a tasting session of their grand vin. Highly recommended.

We visited on a beautiful August day and had a private tour of the winery and wine tasting. The guide Oceane was very friendly and knowledgable. She was really patient with our questions. The tour was really good. You get to see the cooper’s workshop, the cellars, the fermentation vats and it finishes with the wine tasting. After the tour you can walk about the pretty site. There is also a hotel and spa next to it.

This is one wine tour you don't want to miss. The buildings are gorgeous, the wine cellar is impressive and and the guide was informative. This winery features its own cooperage which in itself was worth the tour. Understanding the role of the barrels in winemaking is not usually discussed much less fully explained. And, of course, the wines were good and the use of oak in aging the Sauvignon Blanc blend results in a white wine that we loved, very different and better to my taste that a typical wine of that variety

We visited Château Smith Haut Lafitte for a wine tour with our family (three adult couples) and absolutely loved every moment! We booked the “Road to Paradise” tour with Lise as our guide. The tour took nearly two hours and involved an extensive tour of the estate, their barrel making process, and the cellars. We ended with a tasting of three incredible wines in a beautiful tasting room. Lise was very knowledgeable, friendly, and entertaining with impeccable English! Our family left raving about the tour and what an incredible value it was for all we did and the wonderful wine we tasted. It was one of, if not the, favorite things we did in our 10 day trip to France. Thank you, Smith Haut Lafitte and Lise!

Nice winery with excellent wines. Tour was interesting and enjoyed tasting. Top wine in the area. You don’t want to miss this one
My bad but I do not see the point in spending 230 euro on a bottle of wine. That’s a personal opinion and not a reflection on the quality of the wine

The tour was extensive and informative. We took a picture of the label of their white Bordeaux to purchase back in the states. Madam Cathiard personally greeted us and allowed us to visit her personal seller with wines from the 1800's!! A memorable visit!

Tour was good although a couple people on their phones which is pretty disrespectful. Tasting of only 2 wines on the €19 tour but both delicious. The first red wine of the house from 2012 was gorgeous.

This is a well designed winery producing world class white and red wines. A visit to Bordeaux should include a trip to Smith Haut Lafitte; but eschew expensive tours arranged by the tourist center. From Bordeaux take the C tram to the Villenave Pyrénées Tran station. Call an Uber for around a €11 trip. Taste great wines and take a tour, ours was kinda pricey at €75 each, and afterwards book a table at La Table du Lavoir for a great lunch. A trip well worth the money!
