We visited Eppstein center today, and the Castle. The castle was open 11-3, its winter hours, however, the museum was closed.
It cost €4 per adult, pretty steep, but we enjoyed having the entire place to ourselves on a Wednesday.
Very charming and picturesque. Climbing the tower was great; it’s fun to imagine what life in a castle was like in the 1000’s.
The restrooms were modern and clean.
There’s a cute little playground for littles at the base.
Surprisingly, no open coffee shops, bakeries, or restaurants open in the vicinity.

We visited and were told the castle was open but the museum was closed. Then we encountered the Ritter Ulrich. His tales of the castle were fascinating and incredibly thorough.
He asked if we would like to see his medieval musical instrument. He opened the museum door and invited us in. He played his "hurdy gurdy" that he had made himself beautifully and continued telling stories of the castle and the town.
The views from the castle are beautiful but the highlight for us had to be Ulrich!

About 30 mins from Frankfurt Hbf by rail (half-hourly service), the castle is a 10 minute walk from the station if that. The village is small and not especially interesting but the castle is perched on a hill and commands views across the whole valley and into the Taunus hills. You can see the Kaiser Temple on the hillside. The interior (museum) has limited opening hours but the ruins and tower are open regularly. There are notices in English. The tower can be climbed.

The medieval castle remains are fascinating! The tower was a bit too confining for me but my husband climbed the stairs for a nice view of the area! We enjoyed a lovely presentation of Carmen by the Opera Classica Europa in the evening presenting in the castle.

The good place with a high tower, the looking from the tower is great. Unfortunately the museum at the tower was closed, so I can say nothing about that, but anyway the museum in separate days, so if you want to attend here, figure out when it works.

Each and every time I visit the area, this is a mandatory stop. It transports me to medieval times! Sometimes it is closed but walking to the gate is enough to check the view of Eppstein and adjacent Taunus mountains. If you go inside, climb the tower to see why it was built here. My oldest daughter used to volunteer and translate for English speakers in the 1980, early 1990’s while I was station d in Frankfurt and live here. Always a great place to visit and remember!

We made a short visit, plenty of steps so probably difficult if you are not very mobile but a nice mediaeval small castle for the family to visit on a Sunday

We hoped to visit the Burg today, however we were not allowed to enter, although the castle was open. The unfriendly gate keeper mentioned that the Burg Spiele didn't clean up and therefore no-one could enter. Our small kids were extremely dissappointed and so do we, as we specifically came to see the castle.

The visit doesn´t cost much, and the castle remains are still very well preserved. A "nice to see" in the region.
