The current cemetery, in use since 1951, is close to town and Tahai. You’re sure to come across it without even trying. It caught my eye because it is unexpectedly – cheerful! Each grave is personalized with fresh colorful flowers and sentimental items. It’s clearly...More

The number of flowers suggests the deceased have not been forgotten. Located near the northwestern sector, it is close enough to the water’s edge to hear waves crashing. The cemetery only dates from the early 20th century. The grave markings vary from the typical Christian...More

Tombs are decorated in Rapanui style. The cemetery is located by the ocean with beautiful views and moai nearby.

Beautiful cemetery, especially just before sunset, with the golden light. Covered in colorful flowers. Keep an eye open for some tombs covered in sand & surrounded by big white rocks - unusual!

We passed in our car and it was so beautiful we returned on foot. The colour here is amazing with masses of wild flowers. Graves are well cared for and there is a great spirit about the place.

This grave yard does not inspire sad feelings. In the contrary, it is beautiful, colorful and in front of the ocean.

Our hostel/hotel was right next to this cemetery. Definitely check it out, since it is right in town. Makes for some great photos at sunset, while you are visiting the Tahai heads.

This cemetery is just off the water. It is an interesting juxtaposition of beauty and darkness. It is unlike any cemetery I've ever visited. Worth a stop.
