My husband and I went for a wine tasting and lunch. The young girl at the tasting area knew nothing about the wines, gave us a minuite amount of wine to taste in our glass then charged us $6 for up to 6 tastes (which was ok if we had got a taste). Pouring such a small amount in a tasting glass must be a skill! We were not too upset because unfortunately most of the wines were not worth buying. I enjoyed the bubbles but not for $40 per bottle. My pumpkin soup for lunch was great but my husband's beef burger had some artificial pattie on it which was almost inedible. We were so disappointed with these parts of our overall experience which would be so easy to fix. We understand what a tough time its been for the hospitality industry which is why we were out happy to visiting and spending our money.

I am going to start with the good things about our experience at Flame Hill.
The young man who served us for our wine tasting was very upbeat and reasonably knowledgeable about the wines. He hadn’t been there very long but he knew his wines.
We enjoyed the wines, in fact one friend who doesn’t like Chardonnay was very complimentary about it. The Marsanne was very good. (We only tried the white wines as I can’t drink red).
BUT, when we decided to buy 6 bottles between us, we were each charged $10 tasting fee on top of our purchase! The wine is not cheap (the average bottle is around $40), and all the vineyards we have been to have deducted the price of wine tasting off the amount when you buy wine from them. There is no way in the world that we drank the equivalent of 3/4 bottle of wine and one friend who was driving and stated this right at the beginning had 3 sips!
My main problem with this wine tasting is that there were no signs telling us that the tasting was going to be $10 each, (from what I have read on previous reviews the price is variable) nor were we told at the beginning of the tasting and for 3 sips of wine this is extortionate! Also we bought wine from them. We all said when buying the bottles what we thought about being charged for the tasting. We all paid but it left a bitter taste in our mouths.
My driving friend e-mailed the owner to express her dismay about this but the reply was extremely dismissive.
We all enjoy wine and would like to support the local wineries but in this case we feel ripped off and won’t be going back to Flame Hill Vineyard, nor will our friends who we have told.
This is sad as the wine is good but we don’t like being taken for mugs, hence the 2 star rating.

Do not wAste your time or your money!!
Wish I could give less than one star! Worst "experience" not that you could call it an experience.. we were seated outside poured a choice of 5 mouthfuls of wine with no explanation or description which was followed by the next and so on. The tasting lasted all of 5 minutes and were asked to pay $20 each! Not $10 which they offered to those seated inside, which unfortunately they couldn't accommodate our group size so we were penalised for this fact...Disgusting!!

If you are looking for customer service then forget going to Flame Hill Vineyard. Tony the owner is rude and arrogant. We booked a wine tour and lunch for midday. Arrived at midday to be told we'd do our wine tasting first. Then we got to the restaurant to have our lunch and it took an hour to get burgers and chips. We asked for the wine tasting cost to be waived and Tony came to talk to us. He was rude and arrogant and blamed us for not arriving early than midday. Several emails had been sent to Tony and he'd not answered them. Then he told us he doesn't normal do wine tasting for more than 4 but made an exception for us a group of 5 and that he'd learnt his lesson not to make and exception in the future. When we left he was at the door and I asked for at least a discount on the wine tasting which he then reduced from $15 to $10. Wines are nice and we were all going to buy wine, however Tony's behavior and his attitude was awful. We won't return to Flame Hill Vineyard.

We had a terrible experience here!! Would never recommend! Poor service, overpriced platters ($226 for 2 small platters and 3 pieces of cheese...it was actually a joke!!) they double booked our accommodation on our hens night, then we were left to scramble to find somewhere to stay so the bride could still enjoy her weekend! The only offer from the owner was a house (barely moved into) where one of us would have to sleep on a couch! Couldn't give us a refund on the day "apparently", then when we contacted for a refund of accommodation costs, owner decided it was our fault and hung up...rude, unprofessional and I still don't know how this business is surviving on such poor service! DO NOT BOOK HERE! So disappointing - if I could give negative stars I would!

The wine was good. We bought 6 bottles, spent $270 on wine, yet the cellar door still charged an additional $10 fee for tasting.
This is bad practice and will put off return customers.
Standard practice is for a tasting fee to be redeemable on purchase. When I asked about this I just got confused looks from the staff.
The wine is nice, but I would not recommend the experience at Flame Hill cellar door.

Went for a tasting today - $10 charge at cellar door. We asked to sit outside, they said it would be an additional $10 per person for the same tasting. Wine ok but only had the chance to taste 2 wines (when initially told 5 were including in the $10 tasting) and then waiting 15 minutes between wines before leaving due to lack of service. Disappointing as the grounds are beautiful.

We tasted the wine tasting although it was quick. We bought 4 bottles of Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and the Kurrajong Shiraz. And because you buy a dozen, you get free membership - great marketing strategy and we loved it because we love wine.

It was a disappointing experience- such a beautiful location and a lovely set up. Unfortunately, like others, we found the wine tasting to be lacking in customer service, wine and product knowledge. And to charge double for outside seating is an interesting idea. We sat for ages after receiving a couple of tastings from our five. After asking about it, and with the manager listening and not intervening, we paid for one tasting and walked out. We wanted to enjoy this experience, but left disappointed

We enjoyed a wine tasting before we were seated for lunch as recommended. The wood fires inside the building and also on the deck created a nice warm and cozy ambiance on a rainy day. This place is well set up for all weather. Food was divine and the service was prompt and informative.
