Mt.Longonot makes for a great hike. Certainly not easy especially as you approach the crater rim but the views from up there are amazing. The crater itself is beautiful! Carry enough water and enjoy the hike! :)

Mount Longonot can be done on the way to or from Naivasha. We reached park entrance by motorcycle-taxi from main road, paid Ksh 100 for the ride and took driver number to call him for the ride back once we were done. It is a...More

The hike is not that easy. There are 2 very steep stretches before getting to the top of the crater and another one once you're on top to get to the highest point of Mt Longonot. The path is well marked and impossible to get...More

Mount Longonot, an extinct volcano, is just a few km outside Nairobi. The hike up the mountain will take about 1 1/2 hours depending on your age and fitness. There are some steep, rocky sections, but they are short. The trail around the rim is...More

After reading the reviews from other posters, we were a bit hesitant to do the Longonot hike, especially with the price. Let me tell you, this hike is worth every penny. Getting to the top of the rim and looking down to the crater, is...More

Staying on lake Naivasha for a week I decided to hike Mt Longonot. The ascent is steep but quick. The trail around the rim is exhausting and takes longer than you may expect. The trail was quite eroded and on some points you needed to...More

This turned out to be a much harder hike than anticipated. The hike up to the volcano rim was fine but the hike around the rim was very hard work with no reward... the view from the top was no different and the climb and...More

The hike up to the rim of the crater should have given us a hint of what was to come! We were told to get an early start to avoid the worst of the dustiness, but even arriving at 8am we found the dust already...More

Firstly, make sure you access the site via old naivasha Road (there are some misleading signs on the road around lake naivasha). Pack plenty of water and grippy shoes - this is a tough gradient in parts. All of it is worth the effort though,...More

Trainers will suffice. However, if you circumvent the crater, be aware that you will likely have to stop several times to empty bits of gravel out of them... The loose gravel gets kicked up easily!
