    Hidden gem
We weren't planning to spend much time here, but that soon changed, it was certainly a little surprise. It was full of shops and restaurants which were all very reasonably priced, certainly not a rip-off place like others have said. Most things were cheaper here than any other port we stopped at. It's definitely worth exploring this area, as there is some beautiful beaches and the locals were so friendly.

    Katakola OK
Nice little Greek port but not much to do other than Olympia and downtown retail shopping. The former Aristotle Onassis yacht is next to the cruise port. Took the fun train but the winery was closed and St. Andreas Beach not that great.

    Great Little Cruise Port.
This is a great little port to visit and pick up a tour on the dock. There is also a HOHO Bus to the local city and a little tourist train to take you to a winery, beach and small village, which I would recommend. The tourist prices in the main street of the cruise port are VERY expensive. There is a great little cage called Mango Eats and Drinks in the next street back....excellent coffee for 2 euro!

    Great base for visiting Olympia.
Peaceful seaside village and a great place to use as a base to visit Olympia. If you do, we urge you to use the train from Katakolon to get there. At the moment it only runs once a day in each direction but it is the perfect way to reach the site and drops you off very near the entrance - for only 5 euros each way. Highly recommended.

    Pretty town. Easy access.
Arrived at the cruise port. There is approximately a 500 metre walk over flat road to the little town. Many shore excursions available much cheaper than the cruise ship. Hop on hop off bus was great. Staff were so caring to my husband who has mobility issues. There is also a land train that looks really pretty. My advice is don’t book with the ship. Lots of pretty shops right on port selling tourist stuff plus gorgeous ice cream and foods.

“AVANT TOIS” Seriously beautiful, Made in Greece Unique Kaftans
Absolute Incredible. Clothing 100% Greek. Great experience. 9th Sep. 2024 Spectacular owner designed gorgeous ladies dresses/ kaftans. I had no intention of shopping but they were actually 'exciting'and I am very picky. Exquisite fabric; very well woven and designed. My husband made me go back. Right at the port on the shopping strip. Well priced you will never see anywhere else. Very genuine people. Do not miss the big cotton ruffled kadtans and the black and gold kaftans....... We did not wish to go to Olympia, the main draw from the cruise ship port so we decided to take a relaxing day in port. This is a very small town with the draw to cruise ship ports with souvenir shops and eateries, not much else. But shops are reasonable with unique items, including art and restaurants are abundant , great pricing and food.

Having visited this port on a cruise, I must say it was worth a walk around. Beautiful entry into the port and easy access to the village. Just step off the ship and walk a few metres where you are at the narrow road of shops, boutiques, tavernas and gift shops. Taxis are available and hop on hop off bus but we preferred to walk. There is also a land train. I found the locals here very friendly and prices were inexpensive compared to other parts of Greece. A lovely village to visit.

Katakolon The MOST expensive place for yachts to moor up and plug your boat into the new electric pedestals. We moored up on the town quay where there are new electric and water pedestals, where before it was free, now they charge €1.50 per kilowatt, which when you think the Greek price for electricity is around 20 cents per KWH this is Greece’s most outrageous Municipal council rip off ? I challenged the harbour master as to the costs and he agreed Katakolo is The most expensive place to moor, so avoid and go to a cheap town quay. Scandalous that the Council can rip off tourists like this

We visited here on a cruise. We took the train to Olympia and spent most of our day there. The train is convenient and cheap, but only seems to run one trip out and one trip back, on days when a cruise ship is in town.

When we got back to Katakolon, we visited the unique Museum of Ancient Greek Technology. It is well worth a visit.

As for the rest of the town, not really much there except for one street with shops. When a cruise ship is not in town, I can imagine the town is very quiet.

Katakolon is a shore side village in western Ilia that overlooks the Ionian Sea. We arrived by ship for the day and we were the only ship in the harbor. It’s a small village, literally on a few blocks wide and long. Everything is in easy to walking distance from the ship.

The harbor has little fishing boats and men mending the nets. The streets are dotted with small shops, lovely bars, and family run restaurants. The shops are mainly arts and crafts, pottery and jewelry some nice boutiques.

The port is the gateway to the town of Katakolon and a bus ride to the Olympia ruins. The piers are large enough to accommodate large cruise ships. The port ends at the central part of the town that consists mainly of restaurants and shops. There is a beautiful small ship harbor, It is a town that seems to be full of pleasant people.

We really enjoyed the Port City of Katakolo. Plenty of local owned shops and restaurants. The Fun Train is available for tours daily. It will take you from the port through acres of beautiful farmland and olive grooves to the beach town of Agios Andreas Beach. The train operates every30 minutes from the port. 8€ per person.
