Probably highest wooden church in the world. Beautiful wooden church, well preserved and accessible by car. Surrounded by very nice gardens.

Near Sapanta you shall find a place of more recent making and this is the Sapanta-Peri Monastery . It is not of historical importance since it is a recent church and monastery complex - established in 1997 (so it is recent - to "replace" the old Peri monastery that today is on the lands of Ukraine. - yeah drawing maps by politicians makes awkward situations from time to time).
However it is definitely worth visiting - even that those who built it were just little carried "away" by fervor and built the tallest wooden bell tower in Europe (potential in the world ) - it is 75 m tall (78 m with the cross on top and the lightning conductor).
The church of the complex is not entirely made of wood - it has also stone / brick - so it ain't really a "full" wooden church - but it is as close as it gets.
I don't like the "souvenir store" inside the church - but otherwise it is inserting to visit and since you are in Sapanta it is no detour to stop here.

This monastery is an Eastern Orthodox complex built in the past 20 years and following the rebirth of religious faith in Romania, after the fall of Communism. The monastery complex is dominated by a less traditional church, whose steeple is 78 meters high and which hosts at its lower level the actual prayer hall doubled by a souvenirs store.

Quiet and majestic monastery in the middle of an oak grove. It important that one can build wonderful things out of wood, but more important that you can really feel the peace eternity living here. After you visit the Merry Cemetery, not forget to come here - an hour spent here will help you forget the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Because this is a place where you can meet peace, forgiveness and eternity.

This collection of church and pavillion and monastic residence is spread over a large flat terrain and easy to walk and explore. Everything is available to see up close. There are some signs in several languages.

A beautiful place to visit. If you come so far you must stop here!
This is supposed to be the tallest wooden construction from Europe.

When I said "Full of beauty" I did not refer only to the monastery itself, but also to the area. It is soooooo peaceful... As you visit this monastery, keep in mind that there are other, equally beautiful, monasteries in the near by areas.

This monastery is very close to the Merry Cemetery and it is well worth a quick visit. The visit should take no longer than 15 minutes and there is parking close by. It is very large and not that old. It is set in a beautiful forest reserve.
